Leaf Pile Day
The rake comes out on a Saturday, and Capone is already circling the yard before there is a pile to dive into. He goes in headfirst, and for a while nothing shows above the leaves but a tail by the wall. Donut takes the porch step instead, keeps all four paws out of the mess, and lets one dry leaf land on her toe just so she can have an opinion about it.
Jangly acoustic guitar, handclaps, and a chorus built for shouting along. The verses stay out in the yard with the leaves; the bridge lets the light go gold and the yard go quiet, with Capone asleep in the flattened pile and Donut up on the railing for the last of the sun.
The chorus keeps it short:
Capone and Donut, leaf pile day, One goes running and one stays away.
Press play for a raking afternoon, a dog-and-cat video edit, or any Saturday that needs a little four-pawed bounce. By the final chorus the whole yard is gold and nobody is sweeping.
