Four figures keep the Nightglass Carnival moving across the black lake. Every tent offers a different bargain, and every mirror remembers the face it takes.
Ivara Quill — Mirror Duelist. Ivara fights with a rapier cut from carnival glass, then leaves one reflection behind to confuse anyone who follows her home.
Dask Vell — Lantern Taker. Dask steals the brightest lantern from every tent he visits and uses the growing darkness to hide people who have nowhere else to go.
Orla Fen — Tideseer. Orla reads tomorrow's storms in a bowl of lake water, though the water keeps showing her a passenger who has not yet boarded.
Brannoc Bellhide — Carnival Colossus. Brannoc carries the calliope's great brass bell in one hand and remembers the names of every child who vanished beneath its music.
