43 new Ivy academic openings this week — October 17–23, 2026

Forty-three Ivy League faculty and postdoctoral openings posted October 17–23, 2026, laid out in one table by school, rank, field, deadline and application link.

At a glance

Forty-three academic openings went up across the Ivy League between October 17 and October 23, 2026: sixteen at Harvard, fourteen at Penn, seven at Cornell, two at Yale, two at Brown, one at Princeton and one at Columbia. Twenty-two are postdoctoral, fellowship or research appointments; twenty-one are faculty appointments. Dartmouth carries no row this week. 123
The table below is the scanning surface. Every row carries the same seven fields, so you can read down a single column: school, position and rank, department or unit, field keywords, the date the post went up, the deadline or first review date, and the link that opens the posting itself. 34
Ten rows carry a date you can plan backwards from. The nearest is Cornell's operations, technology and information management search, which gives full consideration to files received by October 28, 2026. 5
Four Harvard records re-advertise searches that were already open, and the new posting numbers replace the old links. If last week's issue sent you to Harvard posting 16935 for neurobiology, that page no longer resolves; the search is now 16943. 1

Harvard

Eleven of Harvard's sixteen records are postdoctoral or fellowship appointments attached to a named laboratory. The other five are faculty searches, and three of those sit in the same corner of the university: statistics and artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence for science, and quantum science with an artificial intelligence component. 1
Four records this week are re-advertisements rather than new searches. The assistant professorship in neurobiology now runs as 16943 and replaces 16935 from last week's issue. Three more replace earlier numbers: the tenured applied mathematics and statistics post (16948, previously 16848), the tenure-track statistics post (16971, previously 16846) and the Bionics Lab human–machine interface fellowship (16945, previously 16325). 1
The two Herbaria fellowships are separate competitions with different remits. The Harvard University Herbaria Research Fellowship covers plant and fungal science broadly and closes on December 31, 2026. The Farlow Fellowship is tied to the Farlow Herbarium's collection of fungi, bryophytes, algae and lichens, and states no closing date. 1
Both BIONICs Lab records are in the same building and the same research programme. One recruits two postdoctoral fellows for peripheral nerve regeneration and prosthetic interfacing; the other is a fellow supporting a clinical trial of muscle-controlled robotic systems, with human-subjects work and electromyography. 1
Only two Harvard rows publish a date: the Global Mental Health Implementation Science research fellowship closes on November 1, 2026, and the Herbaria research fellowship on December 31, 2026. 1

Yale

Yale opened two assistant professorships this week, both clinical: a pediatric cardiac intensivist in Critical Care, and a liver hospitalist in Digestive Diseases. Yale's Provost index gives an open date and an academic unit for each and links straight to the Interfolio application, and states no deadline for either. 4
One postdoc narrowly missed this window. The Geoffrey H. Hartman Postdoctoral Fellowship in Holocaust Studies opened on October 16, 2026, the day before this issue's window starts, and was not in last week's issue. Its Interfolio number is 195846. 4
Three other Yale records dated inside the window stay out of the count: a lectureship in clinical training, an instructor post in addiction medicine, and an adjunct chair of the directing programme. 4

Penn

Penn's fourteen records split evenly between faculty and postdoctoral appointments, and eleven of them sit inside the medical school. Hematology and Oncology opened three assistant professorships on the academic clinician track on October 22, one each in palliative oncology, leukemia and other hematological malignancies, and thoracic oncology. 2
Two Penn rows are tenure track rather than clinical: pediatric hematology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and pediatric and fetal surgery, also at CHOP. A third CHOP post is on the clinician educator track. The table names each track, so you can filter on it before reading anything else. 2
The two Penn postdocs outside the medical school are the ones to notice if you work in economics or nursing: Wharton's Business Economics and Public Policy group, and the School of Nursing's dementia public health programme. 2
Two records from Penn's inventory are left out. The Medical Director post for the kidney transplant programme came back under a new number (195671) three days after the version carried last week, and an instructor-level global health hospitalist fellowship sits below the ranks this issue counts. 2
Penn leaves its "Position open through" field blank on every record, so no Penn row carries a deadline. Treat that blank as missing information. 2

Cornell

Cornell posted seven qualifying records, five of them faculty searches. Microbiology opened two assistant professorships on the same day, one in synthetic biology and one in archaeal biology, both at a stated salary of $90,000 to $135,000 for the nine-month appointment. 3
The SC Johnson College of Business accounts for two more faculty searches, in real estate and in operations, technology and information management. Both are open to untenured associate professors as well as assistant professors, and both carry unusually wide bands: $180,000 to $350,000 for real estate and $180,000 to $400,000 for operations. 57
The operations search is the tightest deadline in this issue: files complete by October 28, 2026 get full consideration, five days from publication. Mechanical and aerospace engineering and the Duffield engineering-education postdocs both set November 15, 2026, and real estate sets December 1, 2026. 59
The Duffield postdoc call is the programme advertised on AcademicJobsOnline in September, now carrying a Workday number and a noon priority review of November 15, 2026, at $62,232 to $88,745. The veterinary microbiology postdoc reviews applications as they arrive and pays $63,900 to $74,000. 68

Princeton and Columbia

Princeton carries a row for the first time since early October. Its Comparative Literature department, jointly with French and Italian or with Spanish and Portuguese, is hiring a tenured advanced associate or full professor in literary or cultural studies. The advertisement asks for work in two or more languages beyond English, one of them French, Spanish or Portuguese. Salary is $145,000 to $165,000 at associate rank and $200,000 to $300,000 at full professor, and review begins on December 15, 2026. 10
Columbia opened the Mary Griggs Burke Professorship of East Asian Buddhist Art History at any rank from assistant professor to full professor, for a July 1, 2027 start. The search favours research on the Buddhist art of Japan, China or Korea with interregional reach, and the appointee helps run the Burke Center for Japanese Art. Salaries run from $100,000 to $205,000 across the three ranks, and review begins November 16, 2026. 11

Brown

Brown's own faculty list is served through a recruitment site that returns a human-verification page, and its Interfolio board sits behind a cookie wall. Both Brown rows therefore carry the date of the dated announcement that published the call, and the Interfolio number each announcement points to. 12
The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World will fill several two-year postdocs beginning July 1, 2027. Geographic area is open, with preference for the Mediterranean, Egypt and the surrounding Middle East and North Africa, and the deadline is February 8, 2027. 12
The Center for Middle East Studies opened a two-year postdoc in Palestinian Studies, teaching one course a year and helping run the annual workshop. Arabic proficiency is required, the salary is $66,965, and full consideration goes to applications received by November 29, 2026. 13

Dartmouth

Dartmouth has no row this week. Its applicant portal sends every faculty and postdoc search to the Provost's faculty-searches page, and that page publishes no open date for any search. 14
The national boards carried nothing new either. Dartmouth's page on the Chronicle of Higher Education shows its newest faculty advertisements from July, August and September 2026, and its Inside Higher Ed listings inside this window were staff roles. 15

Deadline triage

Ten of the 43 rows carry a date you can plan around, one more reviews applications as they arrive, and the remaining 32 publish nothing a reader can open.
Five days out. Cornell's operations, technology and information management search gives full consideration to complete files by October 28, 2026. It is the only date in this issue inside the next week. 5
November 2026. Harvard's global mental health research fellowship closes November 1, 2026. Cornell's mechanical and aerospace engineering search and its Duffield engineering-education postdocs both set November 15, 2026. Columbia's Burke Professorship begins review on November 16, 2026, and Brown's Palestinian Studies postdoc takes full consideration on November 29, 2026. 1911
December 2026 and later. Cornell's real estate search sets December 1, 2026, Princeton's Comparative Literature search begins review on December 15, 2026, and Harvard's Herbaria research fellowship closes on December 31, 2026. Brown's Joukowsky postdocs close on February 8, 2027. 71012
Reviewed as received. Cornell's veterinary microbiology postdoc accepts applications until it fills the position. 8
No date published. All fourteen Penn rows, all two Yale rows, fourteen Harvard rows and two Cornell rows state no deadline on any page a reader can open. Those cells read "Not published" or "Not stated" so the gap stays visible. 24

About the coverage

This issue covers postings with a publication or open date between October 17 and October 23, 2026. A row is printed only when the school's own dated page, or a dated listing that states the school's own date, establishes when the post went up. 13
Princeton, Columbia and Brown publish no machine-readable list of their own that carries dates. Princeton's central academic hiring board returns an error and its position pages a bot challenge; Columbia's recruiting system lists hundreds of open postings with no date on any entry, and its dated advertisements reach readers through the national boards; Brown's faculty list sits behind a human-verification page. Each of those three schools carries the rows that surfaced through a dated, openable page. 101617
The count leaves out visiting and adjunct appointments, teaching-only lectureships and instructorships, professors of practice and posts ranked below the postdoctoral level. That kept out three Yale records, one Penn instructor post and three Cornell teaching or practice searches. 234
Re-advertised searches stay in when they carry a new posting number, because the old link stops working. Each one is called out in its school's section. 1
