Birthday-month enrollment calendar
If your birthday falls in May, the window is narrow — but several programs still work with same-day or next-day enrollment.
May birthdays — what's still available:
- May 19–31 window: Starbucks requires 7 days lead time plus one prior purchase; realistically that means any birthday on May 26 or later still has a shot if you make a qualifying purchase today 1.
- Dutch Bros: Sign up today and the birthday drink loads tomorrow — still usable for any birthday May 20 onward 2.
- Baskin-Robbins, Dunkin', Chick-fil-A, Denny's: No hard published enrollment lag — sign up now and the birthday reward should appear if your birthday is still in May.
- Sephora and Ulta: Walk into any location this month, ask for the birthday gift at the register — in-store redemption requires no advance enrollment window 34.
If your birthday is in June — enroll in the following programs before May 31 to clear activation lags:
- IHOP (7-day registration cutoff; PanCoins load on June 1) 5
- Starbucks (7-day registration + 1 purchase before June birthday)
- Red Lobster (community reports indicate enrolling "a couple of days before" fails; sign up now) 6
- Yankee Candle Fragrance Family (similar late-enrollment failure reported alongside Red Lobster) 6
The reliable floor rule from multiple community sources: sign up at least one month before the birthday to be safe across all programs 67.
Tier 1 — Full-meal and high-value freebies
These programs deliver a complete entrée, a full breakfast plate, or a meaningful snack-size reward — with no purchase requirement at redemption (unless noted).
| Chain | What you get | Enrollment program | Lag | Calorie note | Purchase required? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Texas Roadhouse | Free appetizer of your choice, entire birthday month | VIP Club (free) | Before birthday month | Varies by item; Cactus Blossom ~800 kcal — ask for a lighter pick | No |
| Denny's | Birthday Slam (build-your-own Grand Slam) | Denny's Rewards (app or web) | Before birthday; dine-in reported | ~700–1,100 kcal depending on build | No |
| IHOP | Free full stack of pancakes (5 PanCoins) | International Bank of Pancakes | 7+ days before birthday month | Full stack ~490 kcal | No |
| Buffalo Wild Wings | 6-piece snack wings (traditional or boneless), valid birthday month | Buffalo Wild Wings Rewards | Before birthday | ~240–310 kcal | No (see note) |
| Burger King | Free Whopper + double Crowns all month | Royal Perks | Before birthday | Whopper ~670 kcal | No |
| Benihana | $30 birthday certificate, valid entire birthday month | Chef's Table | Before birthday | N/A | No (certificate is $30 off) |
Buffalo Wild Wings note: Multiple community reports confirm no purchase required at redemption 68. However, at least one 2025 report suggested BWW may require a single prior purchase since account creation; this remains unconfirmed. If you have never ordered from BWW before, making any small order before your birthday reduces the risk.
Red Robin: Red Robin upgraded its birthday reward from a free milkshake to a free Birthday Burger (from the Gourmet, Tavern, or Veggie Burgers menu, valued up to ~$15) effective January 2026 9. The catch: Royalty members must have made at least one transaction (earning 10+ points) in the past year, and the burger requires a $4.99 minimum purchase at redemption, dine-in only 10. That combination places it in Tier 4 (discount-with-purchase) for first-time enrollees — but if you already have an active Royalty account, the upgrade is a genuine win.
Tier 2 — Free drinks and desserts
These programs deliver a free beverage, scoop, doughnut, or sweet item with no purchase at redemption unless noted.
| Chain | What you get | Enrollment program | Lag | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starbucks | Free handcrafted beverage or food item (any size, any customizations) | Starbucks Rewards | 7 days + 1 prior purchase | Green-level members: birthday day only; Gold/higher: full month 1 |
| Dutch Bros | Free drink, any size up to 32 oz, any modifications, 30-day window | Dutch Bros Rewards | 0 days (loads next day) | Best flexibility of any drink program 2 |
| Dunkin' | Free beverage on birthday | Dunkin' Rewards | Before birthday | Any size 7 |
| Dairy Queen | Birthday surprise (typically a small Blizzard Treat or similar) loaded to app | DQ Rewards | Before birthday | Exact item varies by year; log into app on birthday 11 |
| Krispy Kreme | Free treat during birthday month | Krispy Kreme Rewards | Before birthday | ⚠️ Conflicting reports: some sources say free dozen glazed, others say 1 doughnut. Official page says "sweet birthday gift" without specifying. Verify in-app 7 |
| Baskin-Robbins | Free scoop of ice cream on your birthday | Birthday Club | Before birthday | No purchase required 8 |
| Chick-fil-A One | Free chocolate chunk cookie (or similar reward) on birthday | Chick-fil-A One | Before birthday | No purchase required; reward loads to app 7 |
| Nothing Bundt Cakes | Free Bundtlet (mini bundt cake), valid birthday month | eClub | Before birthday | 14-day redemption window — do not wait until the last day of the month 12 |
| Panera Bread | Free birthday pastry or sweet treat, valid birthday month | MyPanera | Before birthday | ⚠️ Delivery inconsistent: one April 2026 community report noted that a local store said they "weren't sure if they always send out the reward," and the email reward did not arrive. Treat as likely, not guaranteed 13 |
| Crumbl Cookies | $5 voucher covering one cookie | Crumbl Rewards | 48 hours before birthday | ⚠️ Silver tier now required (~$40/year spend). Free to all members previously. If you are Bronze tier, the voucher may or may not appear — enforcement has been inconsistent 613 |
Starbucks in plain language: The 2026 program requires you to have made at least one Star-earning purchase before your birthday 13. If you have never bought anything through the Starbucks app, make one small purchase (a drip coffee counts) before the 7-day enrollment window closes. The birthday reward itself requires no purchase at redemption — the prior-purchase requirement only gates eligibility.
Tier 3 — Retail birthday gifts
These three programs give a tangible gift product — no food, no drink, no purchase required in store.
| Chain | What you get | Enrollment | Lag | Purchase required? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sephora Beauty Insider (free tier) | Choice of one deluxe sample gift set; 2026 options include Tower 28, Dr. Dennis Gross, and dae Hair sets | Beauty Insider (free) | Before birthday month | No (in-store); $25 min (online) 3 |
| Ulta Ultamate Rewards | Free birthday gift (product varies; while supplies last); Platinum and Diamond members also receive a $10 off $10+ coupon | Ultamate Rewards (free) | Before birthday month | No (in-store) 4 |
| World Market Rewards | Birthday surprise offer (exact item not publicly disclosed; program terms updated May 16, 2026) | World Market Rewards (free) | Before birthday | Not disclosed 14 |
Sephora: In-store is the cleaner path — staff scan your Beauty Insider account, no purchase needed. Online requires a $25 minimum in the same order. Ulta: Birthday gifts are distributed while supplies last; claim early in the month.
Tier 4 — Discount-with-purchase (not free)
These programs are listed by most deal-aggregator sites as "birthday freebies," but each requires a qualifying purchase to unlock the reward. They are discounts, not freebies, and are flagged accordingly here.
| Chain | Offer | Minimum purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Red Robin Royalty | Free Birthday Burger from the Gourmet/Tavern/Veggie menu | $4.99, dine-in only 10 |
| Applebee's Club Applebee's | Free birthday dessert | $15 7 |
| Chili's My Chili's Rewards | Free birthday scoop (vanilla ice cream with fudge or caramel) | Entrée purchase 15 |
| Outback Steakhouse Dine Rewards | Free birthday dessert | Entrée purchase 15 |
| Chipotle Rewards | Free chips and guac (or choice of drink, queso, or chips) | $5 16 |
| Cold Stone Creamery My Cold Stone Club | BOGO ice cream creation | One full-price purchase |
| Papa John's Papa Rewards | Free dessert (cookie or brownie), valid 14 days | Must place an order 17 |
Worth using if you were already planning to visit; not worth a special trip.
Enrollment routing: 8 programs, minimum inbox footprint
Maximum value, minimum app clutter. "Email" = occasional-promotions list; "app" = install the loyalty app.
Install the app (not just email):
- Starbucks — App required; birthday reward only works through the app. One prior purchase needed to activate eligibility. High reward value (full-price beverages routinely run $7–10).
- Dutch Bros — App required. Best flexibility: 30-day redemption window, any size, any modification, zero purchase at redemption.
- Buffalo Wild Wings — App required. Free 6-piece wings, valid all month.
- Chick-fil-A One — App required. Free cookie, no purchase, extremely reliable delivery according to multiple community reports.
- Dunkin' Rewards — App or account required. Free beverage, low friction.
Email sign-up only:
- Texas Roadhouse VIP Club — Email/web sign-up. Free appetizer all month, no purchase, no app needed 18.
- IHOP International Bank of Pancakes — App or web account. Full pancake stack, but must register 7+ days before birthday month begins (not birthday date) 5.
- Nothing Bundt Cakes eClub — Email sign-up. Free Bundtlet, no purchase, but 14-day window — claim early in the month 12.
Walk-in only (no pre-enrollment required beyond having an account):
- Sephora Beauty Insider — Free tier; claim in store anytime during birthday month. No purchase needed in-store.
- Ulta Ultamate Rewards — Same as Sephora. Claim in store, supply-dependent.
2026 changelog — what changed this year
Several programs quietly tightened their terms in late 2025 or early 2026. If you enrolled before and expect the same experience, read this section first.
Downgrades and new restrictions confirmed
Starbucks — purchase history now required
Previously, any registered Starbucks Rewards member could claim a birthday drink regardless of purchase history. As of January 2026, the program now requires at least one Star-earning transaction before the birthday reward activates 1319. One purchase — any amount — clears this requirement.
Crumbl Cookies — Silver tier (~$40/year) now required
The birthday cookie was previously available to all loyalty members with no spend threshold. As of late 2025, Crumbl requires Silver loyalty status, which takes roughly $40 in annual purchases to reach 613. Enforcement appears inconsistent — at least one Bronze-tier user received a birthday text link in April 2026 anyway — but do not plan on it.
Chili's — free birthday lava cake replaced by birthday scoop
My Chili's Rewards still advertises "free birthday dessert," but the lava cake is reportedly gone; what arrives in 2026 is a scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge or caramel 15. The official page does not specify the item. Additionally, the free dessert now requires an entrée purchase, reclassifying it as a Tier 4 offer.
Outback Steakhouse — free birthday dessert now requires entrée purchase
Previously listed by many aggregators as a no-purchase freebie, Outback's birthday dessert now requires an entrée purchase as of April 2026 15.
Arby's — birthday shake now requires a purchase
Earlier 2025 community lists categorized Arby's birthday milkshake as no-purchase-required. An April 2026 redemption report from a user who successfully collected 12+ other freebies without purchase noted Arby's was the only exception — a purchase was required 20.
Auntie Anne's — program reliability in question
Two independent users in late 2025 reported receiving no birthday pretzel reward despite having active accounts — one said she had an account "forever," the other had made a purchase that year and still got nothing 6. Until this is resolved, do not rely on Auntie Anne's as a confirmed freebie.
Upgrade
Red Robin — milkshake → Birthday Burger
Red Robin's birthday reward improved from a free milkshake to a free Birthday Burger (from the Gourmet, Tavern, or Veggie Burgers menu, ~$15 value) effective January 2026 9. The $4.99 minimum purchase and dine-in requirement make this a Tier 4 offer for new enrollees, but the reward itself improved.
New program to watch
The Cheesecake Factory — new Cheesecake Rewards app launched April 2026
The Cheesecake Factory launched a new app in April 2026 21. The standard birthday reward is a free slice of cheesecake or layer cake with any purchase. An early-adopter promo (free slice for signups through April 30, redeemable through May 7, 2026) has now closed. If you signed up in April and have not yet redeemed, check whether the May 7 deadline has passed.
Enroll now for June birthdays
If your birthday is in June, the most important action to take today — May 19 — is locking in the programs with known enrollment lags.
Do before May 31:
- IHOP: Register and confirm your birthday. The 5 PanCoins that cover your free pancake stack load on June 1 only if you are already registered 7+ days before 5.
- Starbucks: Register and make at least one purchase before June. Green-level birthday reward is only valid on your birthday — missing it means waiting another year.
- Red Lobster: One community user who enrolled "a couple of days before" her birthday received nothing; another who enrolled two months prior received the free dessert via curbside pickup 6. Enroll now.
- Yankee Candle Fragrance Family: Same user reported the same late-enrollment failure for Yankee Candle 6. Register today.
- Texas Roadhouse VIP Club: Sign up before June 1 to ensure the birthday month appetizer coupon arrives in time.
For all other programs listed in Tiers 1–3, sign up now rather than at the start of June. The cost is two minutes per app; the worst outcome is a free scoop you forgot to claim.
