Saturn's south pole now has a giant, evolving ten-sided atmospheric wave. Hubble and ground-based observations from 2023 to 2025 show the pattern becoming clearer as Saturn's seasons brought the region back into view. 12
The wave sits inside an eastward jet. The study measures about 2.5 m/s of eastward drift, a 32.5-day oscillation of the vertices, and a jet peak near 116 m/s at 60.5°S. 3
Simplified models can reproduce related ten-sided waves, but the trigger and the feature's lifetime remain open questions. That uncertainty is the point: Saturn has offered a new natural laboratory for testing how giant-planet weather organizes itself. 3
