October 6–12 Warehouse Club Scorecard: Sam's Wins the Toothbrush by $60, Costco Wins on Chips and Snack Bars
Sam's Club opens a limited-time sale while Costco's October book keeps two identical snacks cheaper, and the widest single gap of the week is $60.01 on a same-brand toothbrush two-pack at Sam's.
Costco's member savings book for September 21 through October 18 is still running, and the club turned over its dated weekly set on October 4, so the items on that page are new for the week of October 6. Sam's Club has no Instant Savings Book on the shelf, with the next one expected October 28, and has instead opened a limited-time sale that runs through October 11 with prices on groceries, health and beauty, household goods, home, toys and electronics. BJ's is four weeks into a 42 percent birthday promotion that added a second wave of items on October 7, and its fuel-saver cycle is live again. Headline picks
1. Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats, 60-count — Costco, by 49 cents. Both clubs carry the same box: 60 individually wrapped Original bars at 0.78 ounces each. Costco has it at $12.49 marked down to $8.49, a $4 instant saving that runs through October 18. Sam's Club lists the same 60-count box at $12.98 marked down to $8.98 through October 11. That is 14.2 cents a bar at Costco against 15.0 cents at Sam's. 46 Sixty bars is a lunchbox supply for a family and a months-long pantry item for one or two people, so check the best-by date before choosing the bigger-looking win.
2. Miss Vickie's Spicy Dill Pickle chips, 22 ounces — Costco, by 99 cents. Same kettle-cooked bag, same flavor. Costco has it at $6.99 marked down to $4.99 through October 18. Sam's Club lists it at $7.98 marked down to $5.98 through October 11. That is 22.7 cents an ounce at Costco against 27.2 cents at Sam's. 47 A 22-ounce bag runs about eight servings, which is a week of lunches for a family and a storage problem for a single snacker.
3. Sonicare rechargeable toothbrush two-pack — Sam's Club, by $60.01. Sam's Club lists a Philips Sonicare Total Clean two-pack at $99.98 marked down to $69.98 through October 11, or $34.99 a brush. Costco's Sonicare offer in the current book is a Professional Clean Plus two-pack at $129.99 after $40 off, or $65.00 a brush. 24 The two models sit at different points in the Sonicare line, so this is a same-brand pairing rather than the identical box; it is the cheapest way on this week's board to put two rechargeable Sonicare handles on one bathroom counter, and a single person may want just one.
4. Cordless spot cleaner — Costco, by $39.01. Costco's BISSELL Little Green MultiClean wet-and-dry portable cleaner is $99.99 marked down to $69.99 through October 18. Sam's Club's comparable machine is the Shark StainForce cordless spot, stain and odor remover at $149.00 marked down to $109.00 through October 11. 24 The brands differ and the job is the same, cleaning a couch or a car seat; Costco's unit is $39.01 less, and neither purchase spoils, so storage is the only size question.
5. A 30-count savory snack pack — Sam's Club, by $4.41. Sam's Club lists Chex Mix Savory Snack Mix, 30 packs of 1.75 ounces, at $12.98 marked down to $8.98 through October 11, which is 29.9 cents a bag, or 17.1 cents an ounce. Costco's closest current offer is Frito-Lay SunChips whole-grain snacks, 30 bags of 1.5 ounces, at $18.39 marked down to $13.39 through October 18, which is 44.6 cents a bag, or 29.8 cents an ounce. 48 These are different snacks in different boxes, matched on the 30-count variety-pack format, and the Sam's pack is cheaper by the bag and by the ounce. Thirty single-serve bags serve a lunchbox routine well and a two-person household slowly.

No identical item is priced at two chains this week. |

Worth pricing a set here against a local quote while the offer runs. |
| Travel | Costco Travel's Cancun package at Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres includes a digital Costco Shop Card on stays of four nights or more; no package price is published. 11 | Publishes no comparable package price. | BJ's Travel advertises up to a $500 gift card on cruises, up to $500 off a bundled hotel-and-air package, up to 50 percent off hotels and up to 35 percent off car rentals. 12 | No cross-chain winner. |
| Gas | Publishes no national average. | Publishes no national average. | Regular averaged $3.966 a gallon across 210 stations in 22 states on Oct. 6; AAA's national regular average that day was $4.3685, so BJ's sits 40.3 cents lower, and Club+ takes 5 cents more off. 1314 | BJ's leads the one readable benchmark. AAA's national regular average was $4.4558 a week ago and $4.1473 a month ago. 14 |
Reading the per-unit tags
A bigger pack and a bigger saving make separate claims, so these are the normalizations behind this week's picks.
- Per bar. $8.49 across 60 bars is 14.2 cents; $8.98 across 60 bars is 15.0 cents. 46
- Per ounce of chips. $4.99 across 22 ounces is 22.7 cents; $5.98 across 22 ounces is 27.2 cents. 47
- Per brush. $69.98 across two toothbrushes is $34.99; $129.99 across two is $65.00. Brush count alone would have hidden the $60 gap. 24
- Per snack bag. $8.98 across 30 bags is 29.9 cents, or 17.1 cents an ounce; $13.39 across 30 bags is 44.6 cents, or 29.8 cents an ounce. 48
- Per gallon. $4.3685 minus $3.966 is 40.3 cents, before Club+'s 5 cents and any fuel-saver credit. 1314
Cherry-picker's route
Single best stop: Costco. It holds the only full savings book still running, the fresh October 4 weekly set, and three of this week's five cross-chain wins.
Put these on the Costco list:
- Miss Vickie's Spicy Dill Pickle chips, 22 oz, $4.99 through October 18 — the same bag Sam's has at $5.98. 7
- Rice Krispies Treats, 60 ct, $8.49 through October 18 — 14.2 cents a bar. 6
- BISSELL Little Green MultiClean, $69.99 after $30 off through October 18 — $39.01 under Sam's portable spot cleaner. 2
- Kirkland Ultra Clean HE detergent, 146 loads, $12.39 through October 18 — 8.5 cents a load. 15
- Kirkland Signature Colombian Supremo whole bean coffee, 3 lb, $4 off and Bibigo Korean Style Crunchy Chicken, 56 oz, $4 off — both from the new weekly set, ending October 11 for the coffee and October 25 for the chicken. 1
The one Sam's stop worth making: the Philips Sonicare Total Clean two-pack at $69.98 through October 11, which is $60.01 under Costco's pair. If a membership is not already in the wallet, Sam's lists Club at $60 and Plus at $120 a year, and the first-year discount that ran through September 30 has ended. 416
The BJ's stop: fuel. Its chain average sits 40.3 cents under AAA's national regular price, and buying one qualifying item in the club earns 10 cents a gallon off the next fill, stacking to 40 cents on four items. 1317
Membership math
Costco lists Gold Star at $65 and Executive at $130. The $65 upgrade against the 2% Executive reward breaks even at $3,250 in eligible annual spending, and gas earns nothing toward it. 18
Sam's Club lists Club at $60 and Plus at $120, a $3,000 break-even on 2% Sam's Cash. 16
BJ's lists Club at $60 and Club+ at $120, the same $3,000 break-even on 2% rewards, capped at $500 per 12-month period and excluding gas, gift cards and third-party services. Club+ adds 5 cents a gallon at BJ's Gas; the BJ's One Mastercard stacks to 10 cents and the One+ to 15. 19
Next week's preview
The week's clocks all close together. Sam's limited-time sale ends October 11, the same day Costco's coffee, pork loin, sewing machine and Dyson Purifier offers expire, and BJ's Deals Days event is running alongside. Costco's member book and both set-of-four tire offers run to October 18. BJ's 42 percent birthday promotion, refreshed on October 7, runs to October 31, and Sam's next Instant Savings Book is expected October 28. 1234510
