Apple TV+ premieres the season on Wednesday, September 16, with the opening episode, "Circle of Life," followed by one episode each Wednesday through October 21. Rotten Tomatoes records a 100% Tomatometer based on 10 early reviews, while audience scores will populate after release. 1
Verdict: Watch It. Slow Horses remains one of the sharpest dramas on television. The show combines biting bureaucratic cynicism with tightly wound suspense, making the premiere an essential watch for returning fans.
Netflix: true crime, wartime commandos, tech futures, and family laughs
Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story — September 17
The fourth installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's true-crime anthology shifts to nineteenth-century New England to examine the infamous 1892 axe murders of Andrew and Abby Borden. Ella Beatty stars as Lizzie Borden, leading a cast that includes Charlie Hunnam as Andrew Borden, Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, Vicky Krieps as maid Bridget Sullivan, and Billie Lourd as sister Emma Borden. Max Winkler directs the opening episode. 10
All eight episodes arrive on Netflix on Thursday, September 17. Rotten Tomatoes currently shows zero critic reviews and zero audience ratings ahead of the drop. 2
Verdict: Watch It. The anthology format allows the creative team to build an entirely fresh cast dynamic. The period setting and deep ensemble make this a compelling weekend binge for true-crime enthusiasts.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare — September 16
Guy Ritchie directs this action-comedy inspired by declassified British War Department files from World War II. Henry Cavill plays Gus March-Phillips, the leader of a covert squad authorized by Winston Churchill to disrupt German maritime operations through irregular, rule-breaking warfare. The supporting cast includes Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin. 11
The film runs 2 hours and carries an R rating. Originally released theatrically in April 2024, the title makes its Netflix SVOD debut on September 16. Rotten Tomatoes tracks a 68% Tomatometer from 168 critic reviews alongside a 91% Popcornmeter from over 1,000 verified ratings. 312
Verdict: Watch It. The film leans into brisk banter, loud combat set pieces, and charismatic performances. The high audience rating reflects a fun, undemanding two-hour movie watch for fans of Ritchie's action style.
The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist — September 15
Facing the impending birth of his first child, Oscar-winning director Daniel Roher (Navalny) and co-director Charlie Tyrell examine the rapid rise of artificial intelligence. Produced in collaboration with Everything Everywhere All at Once producers Daniel Kwan and Jonathan Wang, the documentary conducts interviews with leading researchers and tech executives to weigh existential concerns against technological solutions. 4
The documentary runs 1 hour 44 minutes with a PG-13 rating. Rotten Tomatoes records an 88% Tomatometer across 56 critic reviews and an 87% Popcornmeter from over 100 verified audience ratings. 4
Verdict: Watch It. Roher keeps the inquiry grounded in human experience. The film presents the arguments clearly, offering an informative and accessible primer on AI ethics for viewers seeking thoughtful non-fiction.
Dog Man — September 13
DreamWorks Animation adapts Dav Pilkey's best-selling graphic novel series into a feature-length family comedy. Directed by Peter Hastings, the story follows a police dog and his human partner who undergo a life-saving surgery that fuses them into a single heroic law enforcer. The voice cast includes Pete Davidson as feline villain Petey, Lil Rel Howery as Chief, Isla Fisher, Poppy Liu, and Stephen Root. 5
The animated film runs 1 hour 29 minutes and carries a PG rating. Rotten Tomatoes registers an 82% Tomatometer from 105 critic reviews and an 81% Popcornmeter with more than 2,500 verified ratings. 5

Hulu: celebrated anime and a cautionary pandemic thriller
Suzume — September 12
Japanese animator Makoto Shinkai (Your Name, Weathering With You) directs this fantasy adventure about a 17-year-old girl named Suzume who discovers a weathered doorway standing among abandoned ruins in Kyushu. Opening the door triggers a sequence of disasters across Japan, requiring Suzume to travel the country to lock the portals before catastrophe spreads. The voice cast features Nanoka Hara and Hokuto Matsumura. 6
The film arrives on Hulu on Saturday, September 12, in both subtitled and English-dubbed versions through the Crunchyroll platform hub. The runtime is 2 hours 2 minutes, with a PG rating. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 96% Tomatometer across 137 reviews and a 98% Popcornmeter from over 1,000 verified ratings. 613
Verdict: Watch It. Shinkai pairs breathtaking visual artistry with a deeply emotional exploration of recovery and loss. The high audience and critic approval makes Suzume one of the strongest film additions across any platform this week.
Rich Flu — September 11
Director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia (The Platform) helms this satirical sci-fi thriller centered on Laura (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), an ambitious executive whose professional rise coincides with the outbreak of a lethal disease. The contagion uniquely targets the wealthiest individuals on the planet, gradually moving down the economic ladder and prompting global panic as the affluent attempt to shed their fortunes. The cast includes Rafe Spall, Lorraine Bracco, and Dixie Egerickx. 7
The film runs 1 hour 46 minutes. Hulu adds the title on Friday, September 11. Rotten Tomatoes records a 47% Tomatometer from 15 reviews, reflecting mixed to negative assessments, while the audience score remains unranked with fewer than 50 verified submissions. 713
Verdict: Skip It. The intriguing high-concept premise collapses into clumsy social commentary and uneven pacing. Viewers looking for incisive class satire will find sharper executions elsewhere in streaming catalogs.
HBO Max: weekly satire during a quiet scripted window
Have I Got News For You Season 5 — September 13
Roy Wood Jr. hosts the American adaptation of the long-running BBC comedy panel show, joined by team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black. The series tests guest panelists on current headlines, politics, and culture through rapid-fire quizzes and improvisational debate. Season 5 premieres Sunday, September 13, on CNN and streams simultaneously on HBO Max. 814
Episodes run 45 minutes and carry a TV-14 rating. Rotten Tomatoes lists the series profile without an aggregated critic score for the incoming season. 8
Verdict: Watch It. The comedic chemistry between Wood, Ruffin, and Black reliably generates sharp observations about the news cycle. It serves as an entertaining Sunday evening decompression before the work week resumes.
HBO Max experiences a lighter scripted slate during this mid-September window, filling the calendar primarily with Food Network and HGTV seasonal programming. Subscribers can anticipate bigger original releases later in the month, including the Jay-Z documentary series JAŸ-Z in 8 on September 18, Sharon Horgan's comedy Youth on September 20, and the liminal horror hit Backrooms on September 25. 14
