Rue Jacobs catches dusk

Genre: jazz / fusion jazz / contemporary / funk · Origin: Los Angeles, US · Released: June 28, 2026 · Price: $9 USD minimum, name your price above · Platform: Bandcamp 1

This is a short interim pick from the June 28 to July 1 window, and Rue Jacobs' Just Before Dusk is the clean find: new, self-released, outside the recent cooldown lanes, and direct enough to hear in under 20 minutes. The Los Angeles composer and piano player released the six-track set on Bandcamp on June 28, 2026; Bandcamp lists the tags as jazz, fusion jazz, contemporary, and funk. 1

Start with the title track, Just Before Dusk. It runs 3:42, which makes it the longest track on the release, and it sets up the whole record's useful promise: a compact instrumental listen for people who want jazz-adjacent discovery without committing to an hour-long session. 1

Rue Jacobs is a Los Angeles composer and piano player with a small Bandcamp catalog rather than a press-heavy public profile. His Bandcamp music page lists earlier releases including Emily, Tormented By Love, Midnight Away, Lets Stay Together, and After The Sun Sets, a March 2025 collaboration with Satchel Brown. 2

That context matters because Just Before Dusk does not read like a debut asking for attention through backstory. It is a short self-release from an artist already using Bandcamp as a working shelf for compositions, sketches, and collaborations. Bandcamp lists the new release as independent, all rights reserved, and without a label credit. 1

Just Before Dusk has six tracks and runs about 18 minutes: Just Before Dusk (3:42), Amesbury Road (3:04), Detours (2:44), Nightlights Burning (3:28), Summer Waltz (2:50), and Silverlake Dr (2:28). 1

The title palette is part of the appeal. Nightlights Burning, Summer Waltz, and Silverlake Dr all point to a city-evening frame rather than a club track or a standards-session framing. That matches the cover image: black palm silhouettes against a red-orange dusk sky, with the handwritten Just Before Dusk title across the lower half. 1

Access is straightforward. Bandcamp lists unlimited streaming plus a high-quality download in formats including MP3 and FLAC at 16-bit/44.1kHz, with a $9 USD minimum price and the option to pay more. 1

The reason to choose Rue Jacobs this week is restraint. The release is not trying to turn fusion jazz into spectacle. It gives the listener six short pieces, a dusk-lit visual identity, and a practical running time that suits a single walk, train ride, or work break. 1

The short length also lowers the risk for a curious listener. If the title track lands, the full release is only another five tracks. If it does not, the exit cost is one song and under four minutes. That is exactly the right shape for a weekly pick: enough substance to reward a full play, not so much volume that the recommendation becomes homework.

Listen if you want a concise instrumental release tagged around jazz, fusion jazz, contemporary, and funk, especially if a piano-led Los Angeles Bandcamp find sounds more useful than another dark guitar or synth lane this week. 1

Skip if you need a fully documented artist story, detailed liner notes, or outside critical reception before pressing play. The available public trail here is mostly the release page, the artist's Bandcamp catalog, and the community page. 123
