Vancouver adopts a $3.5 billion capital plan

Vancouver City Council approved the 2027–2030 Capital Plan on Friday. The City says it includes approximately $3.5 billion in City-led capital programs and projects, plus about $0.1 billion in in-kind infrastructure and amenities delivered through development. The largest allocations are $989 million for drinking-water, rainwater and wastewater infrastructure, $703 million for streets, and $558 million for community facilities. 2

The plan includes renewal work for five aging community centres, planning and design for new public pools, a new four-bay fire hall, bridge rehabilitation and street and sidewalk upgrades. Voters will later be asked to approve borrowing in three categories: $438 million for community-serving and essential facilities, $292 million for transportation and street infrastructure, and $60 million for parks and open public spaces. 2

New order near Big Bar Lake; fire measured at 688 hectares

CTV News reported at 8:07 p.m. PDT that the Thompson-Nicola Regional District had ordered people at 107 addresses around Big Bar Lake to leave immediately because of the out-of-control Fiftynine Creek fire near Clinton. The affected area includes permanent and seasonal properties and a 46-site campground at Big Bar Lake Park. 3

CTV said the B.C. Wildfire Service measured the fire at 688 hectares as of 5:22 p.m. PDT. The regional district directed evacuees toward Highway 97 via Big Bar Road when safe and said an Emergency Support Services centre had been established at Clinton Memorial Hall. 3

The same report cited 99 active wildfires in B.C., 81 of them started within the previous 24 hours, as of 8:00 p.m. PDT. This is outside Metro Vancouver and should not be read as a local Vancouver evacuation order. 3

U.S. says Iran strikes entered a seventh night

The U.S. military said it carried out the seventh night of strikes since President Donald Trump declared a temporary ceasefire agreement over. U.S. Central Command said the attacks hit surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage and maritime capabilities. The BBC reported the statement at 8:02 p.m. PDT. 4

The BBC said commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz had largely stopped. Jordan’s armed forces said they intercepted 10 Iranian missiles overnight without reported casualties or damage; Iran’s claim that two oil tankers exploded in a mined part of the strait was rejected by Centcom. Those are competing official accounts, not independently settled facts. 4

BBC Verify and BBC Persian said they verified footage showing damage to Gariveh Bridge in Iran’s Hormozgan province, while the White House said U.S. strikes were directed exclusively at military targets. The claims about targets and wider damage remain attributed to the parties or outlets that reported them. 4
