Indie and alternative

The Durutti Column - Renascent

• Date / label / format: July 31; album; 11 tracks are listed by The Fader, with one CD/digital bonus track. The official release redirect is the direct listening and preorder route. 1
• Signal: This is The Durutti Column's first album in 15 years. The Fader describes the English project, led by Vini Reilly, as a major influence and notes that the press release leaves open the possibility that this could be the final record. 1
• Why listen: The useful context is not just the long gap. Reilly's atmospheric, psychedelic guitar language has been a reference point for artists well outside conventional guitar rock, and Renascent arrives as a late-career document rather than a routine comeback. Start with "Liars," then decide whether the album's quieter, memory-focused mood earns a full listen.

Shearwater - The New World

• Date / label / format: July 31; album. Shearwater says the record is the first of two new albums and was made over four years. 2
• Signal: The band's own announcement calls this its "wildest ensemble" yet and frames the album as a globe-spanning project. That is a useful signal for listeners deciding between a familiar band repeating its habits and one deliberately widening its palette.
• Why listen: The two preview tracks make the choice clear: "Daydream Believer" is the grand lead single, while "More and More" is its more ethereal sibling. If you want a record that announces scale before you commit to the whole thing, this is the indie pick to test first.
• Listen: Bandcamp and the official announcement. 14

Hip-hop

Tyga - $TARFACE

• Date / label / format: July 31; 10-track album. HotNewHipHop lists the project under an alternative-leaning frame rather than presenting it as a standard Tyga rap album. 3
• Signal: The release is built around an 80s pop and synth palette, with "GAVE U RACKS" and "Affection" as the clearest advance clues. The main story is the stylistic risk: a melodic, retro-pop turn from an artist better known for direct rap singles. 3
• Why listen: This is the week's most obvious test of whether a familiar artist can change lanes without losing the reason people showed up. Start with the two preview tracks; if the glossy synths work for you, the ten-track length keeps the full experiment manageable.
• Listen: HotNewHipHop release details. A direct Spotify or Apple Music album page was not surfaced in the source checked.

Cardi B - "AH HA"

• Date / label / format: July 31; Atlantic; one-song single, two minutes. 4
• Signal: Apple Music places the single in Rap Life, New in Hip-Hop, High Maintenance, It's Lit!, and Songs of the Summer contexts. Those placements make this the clearest platform-supported hip-hop quick hit in the week's shortlist. 4
• Why listen: There is almost no commitment cost here. "AH HA" is for the moment when you want a new Cardi B track, not a forty-minute project or a theory about a new era. Use it as a two-minute temperature check, then move to $TARFACE if you want the more consequential stylistic gamble.
• Listen: Apple Music.

Electronic

Arca - XXXXX

• Date / label / format: July 31; XL; 16 songs, 47 minutes. Apple Music identifies it as the first full-length since kiCK iiiii and places it in New Music Daily and New in Electronic. 5
• Signal: The platform note points toward a darker, more disorienting record built from noise and metallic textures. The scale matters: 47 minutes is long enough for Arca's atmosphere to become the subject, not just a production effect. 5
• Why listen: This is the serious electronic commitment of the week. Choose it if you want sound design that changes the room around the listener; do not use it as background music while waiting for a conventional chorus. The best first pass is the opening run of tracks, then the full album if the abrasive textures feel purposeful rather than exhausting.
• Listen: Apple Music.

Sam Gellaitry - ANYWHERE HERE IS PERFECT (DELUXE)

• Date / label / format: July 31; deluxe edition via Major Recordings / Warner Records, adding five new songs to the debut album. 6
• Signal: Northern Transmissions describes Sam Gellaitry as a Scottish DJ, producer, and songwriter known for viral tracks and collaborations with Skrillex, PinkPantheress, and Toro y Moi. The new material is framed around high-pitched synth-pop and a blend of pop, funk, disco, and electronic influences. 6
• Why listen: This is the brighter counterweight to Arca. The deluxe format lets you test the new material without treating the whole record as an unknown: start with "LONGING," which runs just under two minutes, then keep going if the vivid, high-energy palette lands.
• Listen: Northern Transmissions feature. The source checked confirms the deluxe release and its new tracks but does not expose a direct Apple Music or Spotify album URL.

Classical

Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum Leipzig - The Leipzig Collegium Musicum Vol. 1: Music before Bach

• Date / label / format: July 31; Pentatone; 64 minutes; hi-res stream and digital booklet available through Presto Music. The performers include the Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum Leipzig, conducted by Reinhard Goebel. 7
• Signal: BBC Music Magazine selected it as an August 2026 Choral Choice and rated it four out of five stars. The program explores repertoire by Johann Beer, Heinichen, Fasch, Melchior Hoffmann, Graupner, and Telemann; Presto's excerpt says world premiere recording status is claimed for music by Beer and Hoffmann. 7
• Why listen: This is for listeners who want discovery at the level of repertoire, not just another version of a canonical symphony. The series premise gives the album a clear path: hear the musical world that preceded Bach, played by an ensemble built to make that historical connection audible.
• Listen: Presto Music stream and samples.

Verbier Festival Orchestra / Michael Tilson Thomas - Bruckner: Symphony No. 7 in E Major

• Date / label / format: July 31; Deutsche Grammophon; 57 minutes. The recording was made in Verbier in 2005 with the Verbier Festival Orchestra and Michael Tilson Thomas. 8
• Signal: This is an archival performance newly issued rather than a new studio reading. Presto provides lossless 44.1 kHz/16-bit streaming and identifies the recording venue and date, which makes the release useful for listeners who care about conductor, orchestra, and historical moment as much as novelty. 8
• Why listen: Treat it as a comparison listen. If you already have a favorite Bruckner Seventh, the appeal is hearing what Tilson Thomas and this Verbier ensemble did in a live festival setting; if you do not, the 57-minute length is a clean entry into the symphony without a larger cycle to navigate.
• Listen: Presto Music lossless stream and samples.

VOCES8 / Ringmasters - Shall We Gather

• Date / label / format: July 24; Decca; 13 tracks; hi-res 96 kHz/24-bit stream available through Presto Music. 9
• Signal: VOCES8 and Swedish barbershop champions Ringmasters share the record, which moves from Gabrieli, Rachmaninoff, and Praetorius to Whitacre, "Loch Lomond," "The Fool on the Hill," "I'll Be There," and The Bells of Notre Dame. That repertoire list is the point: this is a deliberately wide vocal crossover rather than a single-style choral recital. 9
• Why listen: Start here if you want classical vocals with several obvious bridges into folk, pop, and musical theater. It is also the least intimidating classical release in the issue: the record keeps changing its reference point, so you do not need to arrive with a preferred choral tradition.
• Listen: Presto Music stream and samples.

Country

Shaboozey - The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales

• Date / label / format: July 31; American Dogwood / EMPIRE; 20 songs, 46 minutes. Apple Music describes the project as a concept album about Cherie Lee seeking revenge, developed alongside a script and graphic novel. 10
• Signal: The cast includes Jamie Foxx, Sam Elliott, Teyana Taylor, Gunna, Leon Bridges, and Kehlani. Countrytown calls the record an ambitious range from traditional country to hip-hop and recommends listening front to back rather than treating it as a singles container. 15
• Why listen: This is the week's largest world-building exercise. Start with "Bullets & Blades" featuring Kehlani if you want the country/hip-hop collision in one track; choose the full album if the Cherie Lee premise sounds like something you would rather inhabit than sample.
• Listen: Apple Music. Countrytown's Country Drop feature provides the editorial context.

Wyatt Flores - Scared of Heights

• Date / label / format: July 31; OEG / Island; 13 songs, 40 minutes. Apple Music identifies it as Flores's sophomore album and lists producers Charlie Handsome, JKash, and Gian Stone. 11
• Signal: The production is described as lusher and peppier than his earlier work. Countrytown calls "Hate Myself," the opening track, a good indicator of the album and says the record marks Flores's arrival beyond the emerging-artist stage. 15
• Why listen: This is the cleanest full-album recommendation for listeners who want contemporary country songwriting without a large concept or crossover cast. Start with "Hate Myself," then follow the 40-minute sequence if the brighter production does not blunt Flores's directness.
• Listen: Apple Music.

Dasha - "Memo"

• Date / label / format: July 31; single. Entertainment Focus credits Dasha, Shane McAnally, Ben Johnson, and Ashley Gorley as writers. 12
• Signal: The two sources agree on the core use case: Countrytown calls it another consistent, catchy Dasha release, while Entertainment Focus describes an infectious, playful, punchy post-breakup song with sharp hooks and a chorus that arrives quickly. 1215
• Why listen: "Memo" is the no-commitment country pick: a polished, self-assured breakup single for a playlist slot, not a project you need to schedule time around. The writing team explains the hook-forward finish; Dasha's delivery supplies the swagger.
• Listen: Entertainment Focus feature. A direct Apple Music or Spotify page was not surfaced in the sources checked.
