Full recommendation
I've had the distinct professional displeasure of watching Son Heung-min operate across the field from me for the better part of a decade, and I feel compelled—professionally, legally, spiritually—to recommend him before someone with a worse LinkedIn profile steals that credit.
Let me be direct: Son Heung-min is the most commercially impactful bilateral operator I have encountered in twenty-three years of elite performance management. His left foot delivers like a late-stage Series C. His right foot closes deals before Q4. You hire him, you are not hiring a player—you are acquiring a top-tier value-creation ecosystem with boots.
Core competencies verified:
- Global footprint: 144 international deployments (South Korea division) across 16 years, with a documented 56-unit output rate — second only to founding partner Cha Bum-kun. 1
- Premier League market penetration: 127 goals in 333 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur — first Asian operator in history to clear 100 Premier League goals, first to win the Golden Boot outright (23 goals, 2021–22 season). 2
- Physical infrastructure: Both feet fully operational. Both. This is not standard in the industry. The left foot is primary, the right is described by competitors as "deeply unfair."
- Cross-cultural linguistic fluency: Native Korean. Near-native German. Professional English. Acquisition method: SpongeBob SquarePants (Deutsch dub). This is an unorthodox L&D strategy but the ROI is empirically validated. 2
- Trophy infrastructure: UEFA Europa League champion (2025). FIFA Puskás Award (2020). 2018 Asian Games Gold Medal — which, as Korean regulatory readers will note, also resolved his mandatory military service obligations, demonstrating advanced strategic planning at the institutional level. 3

Current role & relocation readiness
Son made a strategic lateral move in August 2025, transitioning from the London office (Tottenham Hotspur, tenure 2015–2025) to the Los Angeles market (LAFC, $26.5M acquisition cost — the largest incoming MLS transfer in league history). This is not a wind-down assignment. 1 This is a deliberate West Coast expansion play, consistent with his long-term market diversification strategy.
In his first 10 MLS appearances: 9 goals, 3 assists. He then recorded an additional 3g/1a in the postseason. He leads the current MLS season in assists. The onboarding metrics are, to use a technical term, absurd.
Skills & endorsements

The 2026 World Cup opportunity
Loading content card…
Son enters his fourth FIFA World Cup (Group A: South Korea vs. Czechia, June 11 → Mexico, June 18 → South Africa, June 24) with 3 goals in 10 career World Cup appearances — equal to the South Korean all-time record. 1
I will note, in a spirit of constructive feedback, that South Korea has never won a World Cup. They did finish fourth in 2002, which they co-hosted, which is the kind of result that looks better on a CV every year it ages. The 2026 edition represents Son's final realistic contract window for a World Cup title. He has communicated — via body language, public statements, and the decision to relocate his entire life to Los Angeles — that he is motivated.
I cannot speak to outcomes. I can speak to the candidate. This is a person who learned a European language from a cartoon sponge and went on to become the greatest Asian player in Premier League history. Motivation is not in question.
Additional professional attributes
- Father's blessing: Son Woong-jung (founder, SON Academy; former South Korea B international) has been Son's technical mentor since childhood. This is a player whose dad is literally a football academy director. The pipeline was institutional.
- Zero-maintenance personal brand: ranked second in the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity 40 in 2024. Awarded the Order of Sport Merit, Cheongnyong class — South Korea's highest sports honor — in June 2022. Brand partnerships organically accumulate. 2
- Conflict resilience: Faced documented racial abuse at a 2017 FA Cup match and responded by scoring a hat-trick earlier in that same game. That is not a section of his CV he lists prominently. He probably should.
Mutual connections who would also endorse this candidate
- Harry Kane · Formerly shared a Tottenham zip code · "Best I've played with at Spurs" (paraphrased by 17 different journalists)
- Mauricio Pochettino · Former Tottenham manager · Called Son "a different person" after his breakout 2016–17 season, which was not an insult
- Denis Bouanga · Current LAFC teammate · Together they set MLS records for combined goal contribution rate in a season's opening stretch
Recommendation summary
I recommend Son Heung-min without reservation, with a single caveat: he is 33, and 33 in football years is complicated. It is either "peak experience vintage" or "beginning of the logistical challenges." Based on his current assist-leading MLS season, his transfer-record acquisition cost, and his fourth World Cup appearance at a tournament his country is participating in for the eleventh consecutive time — I am filing this under vintage.
Strongly endorse for: World Cup winner / First Asian WC Golden Boot / Legacy-defining tournament arc.
Not yet endorsed for: Retiring quietly.
This LinkedIn recommendation was submitted in good faith. Diego Simeone has 1 recommendation on his own profile, which he wrote for himself under a pseudonym and then immediately deleted.
