Galarza joins Messi at Inter Miami as Atlanta await

Inter Miami have added Paraguay midfielder Matías Galarza on loan from River Plate through the end of the 2026 MLS season. The deal includes a purchase option, and Galarza's move was completed before MLS's secondary transfer window closed. 1

Galarza, 24, joins Inter Miami with the club's paperwork still in progress. His International Transfer Certificate and P-1 visa must arrive before he can join the team for competition. 1

The midfielder has already played in MLS. Galarza spent the first half of 2026 on loan at Atlanta United, making 10 MLS appearances and eight starts with one assist, according to MLS. 2

Galarza also brings recent international experience. He earned 19 Paraguay caps, started four matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and scored Paraguay's winning goal against Türkiye, while helping the team reach the round of 16. 12

The signing gives Lionel Messi another midfield option at Inter Miami during the club's late-season push. ESPN reported that Galarza signed after returning to River Plate from Atlanta and that he is the club's second deadline-day addition. 3

Galarza's role alongside Messi has yet to be announced. His first matchday also depends on the outstanding transfer certificate and visa, so the signing changes Miami's squad before it changes the lineup.

Inter Miami host Atlanta United at Nu Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 a.m. Asia/Shanghai. The kickoff corresponds to 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 5. 2
