Mandala #32 — Ge: Germanio (Germanium)
Element 32 · Ge · Germanio
Warm gray metalloid
The element that launched the transistor age — the first semiconductor used in electronics, predicted by mendeleev.
Mendeleev predicted germanium as 'eka-silicon' in 1871; it was discovered in 1886. The first practical transistor (1947) used germanium. Silicon eventually replaced it for integrated circuits, but germanium is still used in fiber optic cables, infrared optics, and solar cells.
50 Mandalas de Elementos Químicos — a sacred geometry digital art series where science and beauty converge. Each mandala's palette, pattern, and structure is inspired by the element's atomic character, crystal structure, reactivity, and visual identity.
