At a glance

This issue lists 49 academic openings with a posting or open date between September 26 and October 2, 2026: 16 at Harvard, 11 at Penn, nine at Cornell, seven at Yale, three at Princeton, two at Columbia, and one at Brown. Nineteen are postdoctoral, fellowship or research-track posts; 30 are faculty appointments. 1234
The table is the scanning surface: school, position and rank, department or unit, field keywords, the date the post went up, the deadline or first review date, and the application link, one row per opening. Harvard's posting feed timestamps every record and carries the full text of each posting, so appointment type, field and eligibility come straight from the source. Cornell's posting pages state a review date in place of a deadline. Yale's and Penn's public inventories publish the title, the unit, the open date and the application link, and leave the deadline field empty.
Seven of the eight schools have a row this week; Dartmouth does not, and the closing section says what was checked there. Where a school left a field unpublished the row says "Not published", and where a post states no date at all the row says "Not stated". Every date carries its year. Visiting appointments, teaching-only lectureships and instructorships, and posts ranked below the postdoctoral level stay out of the count.

Harvard

Nine of the sixteen Harvard records are postdoctoral or fellowship posts and seven are faculty searches. Three of the faculty lines are a single statistics wave: an untenured statistics and AI professorship in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, a tenured one in the same department, and a joint tenured appointment in applied mathematics and statistics that spans the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the statistics department, working on AI for science. Two more come from the Harvard Kennedy School, an open-rank search in public management focused on cities and local government, and a junior urban economics position. 1
Four of this week's records re-advertise searches carried in earlier issues under new posting numbers: computer science, the Social and Behavioral Sciences postdoc, the two particle physics and cosmology fellowships, and the mental health services T32 fellowship. The earlier numbers have dropped out of Harvard's feed, so the links in the table are the live ones. 1
Two of the fellowships restrict who can hold them. The mental health services and policy research fellowship is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and is open to US citizens and permanent residents only, and the Reischauer Institute fellowships in Japanese studies take applications until December 18, 2026. The condensed matter theory postdocs sit across eight faculty groups in Physics and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and applicants are considered automatically for the Harvard Quantum Initiative fellowship as well. 1

Yale

Seven Yale records opened between September 28 and October 1, and none of them states a deadline. The Applied and Computational Mathematics department opened a junior and a senior line on the same day, September 28. Three of the seven are postdoctoral or fellowship positions — classics, pre-modern cultures and civilizations, and the informatics fellowship in radiology and public health — and the rest are Yale School of Medicine or school-level faculty searches: environmental engineering in the chemical and environmental engineering department, and adult reconstruction and arthroplasty in orthopaedics, based at Bridgeport. 2
Yale's Provost index publishes a title, an academic unit, a location and an open date for each search, and links straight to the application on Interfolio. It carries no appointment language and no deadline on any page a reader can open, so the table keeps "Not published" in those cells rather than leaving them blank. 2

Penn

Six of Penn's eleven records sit in the Perelman School of Medicine. Three of those are clinical or research track appointments rather than tenure lines: a clinician educator post in pediatric oncology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia opened at two ranks the same day, an associate professor post in emergency medicine, and a research assistant professor of informatics in biostatistics, epidemiology and informatics. The medical school also opened the chair of the genetics department. 3
Outside the medical school, the Wharton School's finance department opened an assistant professorship and an associate-or-full professorship on the same day, the School of Arts and Sciences opened a tenure-track mathematics line, the veterinary school advertised postdoctoral researchers for the Baslan Lab, and the dental school's systems pharmacology group advertised a research associate post. Penn's inventory leaves "Position open through" blank on every row, so no Penn row carries a deadline. 3

Cornell

Cornell's nine in-window records come from seven units. Two are plant and food science searches in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences — chemistry for sustainable and healthy foods in the food science department, with a full-consideration date of October 25, and clouds and cloud processes in earth and atmospheric sciences — and two are in the College of Arts and Sciences, a history of art search in ancient Mediterranean art and archaeology that carries curatorial responsibility for Cornell's plaster cast collection, and an open-rank history of the modern Middle East with a focus on Israel/Palestine after 1917, taking applications until November 15. 4
Three of the nine are research or postdoctoral posts and all three review applications as they arrive: a postdoctoral associate in diamond growth for quantum networking in applied and engineering physics, a research associate in the Plowright Laboratory working on bat immunology and pathogen spillover, and a postdoctoral associate in the Global Development department's food systems and global change team. The Cornell Tech search in operations research and information engineering wants files by October 30 for full consideration and expects candidates to show engagement outside academia. 4
Cornell also opened three posts this week that stay out of this digest's scope: a professor of practice supporting the operations research master's programme, a two-opening teaching professorship in systems engineering, and a Great Lakes tourism extension associate. 4

Princeton

Princeton has three rows this week, its first since the September 12–18 issue. The Professor of Bioethics is a full-professor appointment in the University Center for Human Values, expected to begin on or after July 1, 2027, for scholars working on biomedical, environmental or animal ethics or on the ethical implications of recent life-science work, with a joint appointment in a discipline possible. Files are due by November 1, 2026 for full consideration. 5
The other two are postdoctoral research associates. The cognitive science of values position sits in the Program in Cognitive Science with the University Center for Human Values and is based in Tania Lombrozo's psychology lab, for research on how moral and epistemic values shape decision making and belief revision, starting in September 2027. The African studies position sits in the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies and asks the holder to teach one course a year alongside research, with applications due November 20, 2026. 67
Princeton's own academic-hiring page sends every faculty and academic search to an application board that returns only a cookie notice to anyone opening it, and the board carries no posting date. The three dates in the table come from Princeton's own advertisements, each of which states the date the university posted it. 5

Columbia

Columbia's two rows are a tenure-track assistant professorship in Luso-Brazilian cultural studies since 1800, in the department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures, with review of applications beginning November 1, 2026 and a particular welcome for scholars working on Afro-Brazilian studies or on indigeneity and gender; and the Stephen Smith Professorship and chair of the department of Sociomedical Sciences at the Mailman School of Public Health, a senior appointment that leads a department working on the social and structural determinants of health. 89
Columbia's academic recruitment system lists 667 open postings, and every listing a reader can open says "Open until filled" where a date would sit. The two dates in the table come from Columbia's own advertisements. 8

Brown

Brown's one row is a tenure-track assistant professorship in Early Modern Philosophy, in any area of early modern philosophy other than Kant, beginning July 1, 2027. The appointee teaches three courses a year and review of applications begins November 1, 2026. 10
Brown's own faculty-hiring route points readers at a recruitment site that returns a human-verification page, and its application board returns a cookie notice. The date in the table comes from Brown's own advertisement. 10

Deadline triage

Seventeen of the 49 posts carry a date by which a file has to be ready, or a review date that works the same way. 4
October 2026. Harvard's Kennedy School public management search reads files received before October 15. Cornell's food chemistry search gives full consideration to files received by October 25, and its Cornell Tech operations research search by October 30.
November 2026. Six searches take files by November 1: the Harvard Kennedy School urban economics position, Harvard's particle physics and cosmology fellowships, Harvard's condensed matter theory postdocs, Princeton's Professor of Bioethics, Columbia's Luso-Brazilian professorship, and Brown's early modern philosophy search. Harvard's Galileo Project fellowship and Cornell's modern Middle East search begin review on November 15, the Harvard mental health services fellowship closes November 16, and Princeton's African studies postdoc closes November 20.
December 2026. Harvard's Reischauer Institute and U.S.-Japan postdoctoral fellowships take applications until December 18.
Reviewed as received. Cornell's diamond growth postdoc begins review immediately and runs until the position is filled, and its Plowright Laboratory research associate and food systems postdoc read applications as they arrive.
No date published. Nine Harvard rows, all seven Yale rows, all eleven Penn rows, three Cornell rows, one Princeton row and one Columbia row state no deadline on any page a reader can open. Those rows keep "Not published" or "Not stated" in the deadline column so the gap stays visible rather than looking like an absence of one.

About the coverage

This issue covers postings with a publication or open date between September 26 and October 2, 2026. A row is printed only when the school's own page, or a dated listing that states the school's own open date, establishes when the post went up. A search whose page carries no date waits until one appears.
Dartmouth has no row this week. Its recruitment pages listed staff and administrative vacancies and an economics research specialist ranked below the postdoctoral level, and the two faculty advertisements that appeared this week, a Tanner Chair in next-generation sensing at the engineering school and an instructional faculty position in engineering, carry an open date of September 25 that falls inside last week's window. 11
The count leaves out visiting appointments, teaching-only lectureships and instructorships, and posts ranked below the postdoctoral level. That kept a Penn lectureship in the Japanese language program, a Penn lecturer and faculty-director post at the Lauder Institute, and a Penn record marked as a test out of this issue, along with the Cornell posts named above. 3
Princeton, Columbia, Brown and Dartmouth publish academic openings without a posting date on their own pages. The Princeton, Columbia and Brown rows above carry the date their advertisement went up on the national job board that hosts it, and each row links to that advertisement. 12
