Nepal-China flood rescue. The combined death toll has risen to 633, with nearly 3,000 people still missing, according to the Associated Press. Nepal reported 626 deaths and 2,426 missing people; Chinese authorities reported seven deaths and more than 550 missing on the Tibet side. More than 3,700 people have been rescued in Nepal. Helicopter operations resumed after bad weather, while rescuers searched a mud-filled hydropower tunnel where more than 100 people may be trapped. Niger's capital. Heavy gunfire and explosions were reported overnight near Niamey's international airport and the district around the presidential palace. The Associated Press says security forces were deployed and a major road into the city was closed. Niger's ruling military council called for unity but did not explain the attack. A local lawmaker said the situation was under control. Reuters reported that some accounts involved mutinous soldiers attacking the airport and presidency, but said it could not independently verify all of them. The exact cause remained unclear. 34

Strike near Kyiv. Reuters reports that at least 27 people were killed and 42 injured after a Russian drone strike on a warehouse in Kyiv region triggered a detonation. More than 380 people were evacuated. Ukrainian officials said nearby homes and an elderly-care facility were damaged, and opened criminal cases over alleged negligence in storing ammunition near residential areas.
