An original cartoon parody song about the week the White House press secretary lasted five days — hired off cable news, one briefing long, gone by Friday — and the internet's habit of measuring short careers in Scaramuccis.
Katie Zacharia was named White House press secretary on Friday, October 9, 2026, in a Truth Social post from President Donald Trump that called her an "attorney." She was in the building on Monday. She gave her first briefing on Tuesday, October 13, and by Friday afternoon she was out. Five days. 1
The briefing that ended it ran about 14 minutes. She took three questions from reporters, read talking points from a notebook, and spent much of the time reciting the president's accomplishments. She could not answer whether the United States had stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine, and she announced that Trump had asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as ambassador to Greece — news that broke out of her own briefing after a reporter asked whether the president planned to fire Guilfoyle. Guilfoyle announced her departure within hours. 2 In the middle of it she referred to the president as her husband. 3
Then came the law degree. Asked at the White House in which state she had passed the bar exam, she said: "When I moved to China." She later told the New York Times she had misheard the question over the noise of the helicopter. The Wall Street Journal reported, and a senior administration official confirmed to NBC News on October 15, that she sat the California bar exam after graduating from Pepperdine and did not pass it. A White House official argued she could still technically be considered a "lawyer" rather than an attorney; several lawyers told NBC News that "lawyer" is understood to mean someone admitted to the bar. On October 14 the watchdog group Campaign for Accountability asked the State Bar of California to investigate whether she had held herself out as entitled to practise law without a licence. 45
Sean Hannity asked her on Fox the question everyone had: "Why didn't you just say, 'I never practiced law?'" She answered that "those questions weren't asked," and that she had been hired to be White House press secretary, not White House counsel. 67
On Friday, in front of Marine One, the president told reporters he had told her she did not have to do this, and that if he were her he would reconsider. She said goodbye on X, calling him a kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful and hardworking man, and wishing more Americans appreciated him. That evening she was due at the Vice President's residence for dinner with JD Vance and his family — it had been on the calendar. 2
And the record: Anthony Scaramucci lasted eleven days as White House communications director in 2017, and his name became Washington's joking unit of time. Five days is not even half a Scaramucci, and the internet spent Friday doing the math. "Records are made to be broken," Scaramucci posted. "But I take no pleasure in other people's pain." 68 The memes arrived faster than the obituaries: a LinkedIn headshot carrying the green open-to-work tag, Governor Gavin Newsom's press office posting her picture under the line "In Memoriam Tuesday – Friday," and a revolving door of jokes about who would be next. 38 The White House said she was moving into a new role to be announced later, and the president told Fox News he was in no rush to name a replacement, leaving the job empty less than three weeks before the midterms. 23
The song and every frame of the cartoon are original to this episode.
