The element of salt and fire — giving the sun-yellow d-line in flame tests, essential for nerve impulse transmission.
Sodium burns with the brilliant yellow of sodium D-lines at 589nm. It reacts explosively with water. Yet as sodium chloride (table salt), it seasons food and regulates fluid balance in every animal. Without sodium channels, nerve signals couldn't propagate.
