Warren Ellis and Salvador Larroca’s 2007–08 six-issue limited series reimagines Marvel’s New Universe on Earth-555, a reality adjacent to Marvel’s bigger multiverse but not the main Earth-616 line. The starting point is the White Event: a sudden rupture that gives a handful of people impossible abilities while rewriting the world around them. It is a sharp, unfinished experiment in alternate-history superhero science fiction.

This 1995 two-issue prestige miniseries is Warren Ellis’s deliberately hostile answer to Marvels. Phil Sheldon travels through Earth-9591, a dystopian Marvel reality where the accidents and experiments behind familiar origins usually end in deformity, death, or state violence. Terese Nielsen, Cliff Nielsen, and Chris Moeller supplied the painted artwork across the series. The cover is the right warning label: this is a continuity detour built to make the familiar look poisonous.
