GPT-6 Astra reaches OpenAI's critical cyber threshold

OpenAI has released GPT-6 Astra, a model it describes as state of the art across computer use, coding, science, and cybersecurity. 1

OpenAI says Astra is its first model to reach the Critical level of cybersecurity capability under the company's Preparedness Framework. The safety overview says Astra can find previously unknown security flaws and develop new ways to exploit well-protected systems with limited human guidance. 2

The rollout is limited at first. OpenAI says stronger monitoring and isolation are being added, while its safety review also says Astra is harder to monitor than GPT-5.6 Sol. 2
