Sports Tickets Weekly Episode 8: Deadline fallout and the first preseason ticket test (2026)

Episode guide

The MLB trade deadline is over, and the Dodgers now have Tarik Skubal in a rotation that was already built for October. The NFL opens its preseason in Canton, while the NBA and NHL remain roster-watch sports. The episode closes with two all-in Vivid Seats snapshots and one live-ticket call: Athletics at Boston at the verified ninety-one-dollar floor, if the seat itself works for you.

What to listen for

NBA

NBA.com's August sixth offseason tracker adds a reported three-year Dillon Brooks extension in Phoenix and lists Golden State's one-year Gary Payton II deal, officially announced August first. The 2026-27 calendar lists preseason beginning October third, so this week's NBA segment is about roster movement rather than a current game or ticket purchase. 1 2

NHL

There are no regular-season NHL games in this August window. NHL.com's August sixth free-agent tracker lists Connor Bedard's five-year, seventy-five-million-dollar Chicago deal, Patrick Kane's two-year, sixteen-million-dollar return to Chicago, and Trevor Zegras' four-year, thirty-six-point-five-million-dollar move to Philadelphia. The Bruins segment follows Boston's acquisition of JJ Peterka from Utah for the twenty-third draft pick and a conditional 2028 first-round pick. 3 4

MLB

MLB.com's deadline tracker confirms Tarik Skubal to the Dodgers, Adley Rutschman to Boston, Luis Arraez to Philadelphia, Kevin Gausman to the Cubs, and Casey Mize and Robbie Ray to San Diego. ESPN's post-deadline winners-and-losers read calls Los Angeles the biggest winner, while questioning Detroit's decision to move Skubal from a team still near the wild-card race. 5 6

The immediate on-field note comes from MLB.com's August sixth Premier Plays page: Pete Crow-Armstrong and Shohei Ohtani each homered twice on August fifth, and Angel Genao had a four-hit major-league debut. 7

NFL

Carson Beck is scheduled to start at quarterback for Arizona against Carolina in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game. NFL.com also reports that Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love will not play, while Atlanta linebacker Jalon Walker will miss the season with a torn ACL. 8 9

Ticket board

The Hall of Fame Game snapshot showed a $37 floor, $49 average, and $52 highest visible example, with 156 listings and fees included. 10

Athletics at Boston on August eighth showed a $91 floor, $198 average, and visible listings up to $321, with 499 listings and fees included. The episode's worth-it call is Fenway at the verified floor, provided the section, row, and seat count make sense. 11

These are Vivid Seats snapshots refreshed at 4:05 p.m. on August sixth, not fixed quotes. The SeatGeek and StubHub detail pages did not load as readable event listings in this check, so the numbers should be treated as a verified single-market view rather than resale-market consensus.

Fantasy line

StatMuse's July thirtieth through August sixth window has Boston's Wilyer Abreu leading MLB with five home runs. Treat him as a short-term power play for a weekly matchup, not a season-long projection. 12
