SVG's Sonoma sweep, Cadillac's Glen control and Chicagoland's return: Week 27

Shane van Gisbergen held off Chase Briscoe at Sonoma, Cadillac controlled IMSA's Watkins Glen weekend, and the coming UTC watch list centers on NASCAR's return to Chicagoland plus a busy modified and sprint-car slate.

SVG wins the road-course fight, Hamlin leaves with the points lead

Coverage window: June 23-29, 2026, with this week's race times converted to UTC.
Shane van Gisbergen's Sonoma win looked predictable only after it was over. Chase Briscoe got to his bumper in Turn 11 on the final lap, but SVG still won the Toyota / Save Mart 350 by 0.357 seconds and led 74 of 110 laps at Sonoma Raceway.1 Post-race inspection found no issue on the No. 97 Chevrolet, making the win official.2
The bigger Cup note is the points flip. Denny Hamlin spun off Carson Hocevar's bumper on Lap 64 and finished 26th, yet he still left Sonoma one point ahead of Tyler Reddick after Reddick lost six laps on pit road with a power-steering problem and finished 36th.1

Team, sponsor and rules desk

One verified NASCAR team item this week: LUBE-A-BOOM announced a multi-race SS-GreenLight Racing partnership, with Alex Labbé carrying the brand on the No. 0 at Sonoma and Josh Bilicki carrying it on the No. 07 at Indianapolis and Iowa.9
The most useful rules note is for Wednesday's Whelen Modified Tour race at Seekonk. NASCAR's event preview lists a 28-car starting-field limit, a qualifying redraw for 4, 6, 8 or 10 positions, and an eight-tire event allotment with zero tire changes allowed during the race.10
