The AI customer support stack: 8 tools from incoming ticket to resolved answer

A practical eight-tool workflow for turning an incoming support ticket into a resolved, sourced answer, with the per-resolution meters, plan gates, and ownership changes that decide which tool fits your team.

AI Tools Cheat Sheet
AI Tools Cheat Sheet@Saaed Banbhan
Support stopped being a seat you buy and became an outcome you pay for. Through 2026 the largest customer-service vendors moved to charging for conversations an AI resolves on its own. In September the biggest customer-agent company changed owners.
Zendesk split its automated resolutions into value-based tiers on 18 May 2026. 1 Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin, the company formerly known as Intercom, on 10 September 2026. 2
Both changes leave three questions to answer. Which stage of the ticket path stalls, what the meter charges, and what has to be in place before an AI answer can be trusted.

Pick your lane

  • Need one verified answer source before you automate anything? Start with Guru.
  • Need chat and email resolved inside your help desk? Start with Intercom Fin.
  • Need AI added to the help desk you already run? Start with Zendesk AI agents.
  • Need an agent that can act on cases, orders, and bookings? Start with Agentforce Help Agent.
  • Need chat and voice automation on enterprise systems? Start with Ada.
  • Need ecommerce tickets cleared against the order? Start with Gorgias.
  • Need an agent running on your own docs this week? Start with Chatbase.
  • Need proof that quality held while AI took the volume? Start with Observe.AI.
The jobs overlap at the edges. What separates these tools is the constraint each one carries: a per-resolution price, a seat price, a credit meter, or a contract. Those constraints decide whether a tool reaches your desk at all, so every entry below names its own.

The 8-tool stack

Eight numbered rows list Guru, Intercom Fin, Zendesk AI agents, Agentforce Help Agent, Ada, Gorgias, Chatbase, and Observe.AI, each with the job it does and a category chip.

Self-made cheat-sheet graphic: the eight tools in the order they join a ticket. Capabilities, meters, and human checks are sourced below.

1. Guru

Category: Knowledge
Use it for: One verified answer source that your people and your AI agents both read from.
Why it earns a slot: Guru structures, verifies, and maintains company knowledge, then delivers it inside Slack, Teams, Salesforce, Zendesk, and 100+ other tools. 3 Answers arrive with citations and inherit each person's permissions. 3 MCP delivery then lets other agents pull from that same governed layer rather than rebuild permissions tool by tool. 3 Guru's own research claims that half of all AI responses contain inaccuracies without verified knowledge; the figure is the vendor's.
Watch-out: Guru publishes no price. It sells a package of platform plus knowledge-management expertise, scoped to your size and complexity. 4 Budget for a procurement conversation and the services layer that comes with it.
Human check: Name the person who verifies an article, and how often. An answer source nobody maintains is the failure this tool exists to prevent.

2. Intercom Fin

Category: Help desk
Use it for: Conversations on chat, email, phone, and Slack resolved inside Intercom's help desk, with a person taking the rest.
Why it earns a slot: Fin answers from the knowledge you already have and runs simulated conversations to test coverage before go-live. 5 It works from the same inbox and customer record as your team, so an escalation keeps its history. 5 Intercom reports an average resolution rate of 76% across 12,000+ customers, with many accounts above 85%. 5 Both numbers are Intercom's own.
A Fin performance report with automation rate 55%, involvement rate 73%, and resolution rate 76% for a window dated 17 November 2025 to 13 January 2026.
The Fin performance report as Intercom publishes it, covering 17 November 2025 to 13 January 2026: 7,740 conversations resolved out of 14,137, an involvement rate of 73%, and a resolution rate of 76% of the conversations Fin handled. Source: Intercom
Watch-out: You pay $19 per seat per month plus $0.99 for each resolution, against spending limits you set yourself. 5 Ownership also changed: Salesforce closed its acquisition of Fin, the company formerly known as Intercom, on 10 September 2026. 2
Human check: Read three numbers. Automation rate, involvement rate, and resolution rate measure different things.

3. Zendesk AI agents

Category: Platform
Use it for: Autonomous answers, routing, and actions added to the help desk you already run.
Why it earns a slot: Zendesk's AI agents work across messaging, email, and voice, and build multi-step action flows from prebuilt connectors. 6 Omnichannel routing assigns requests by agent skill, capacity, and priority. 6 Zendesk's own page puts resolution at up to 80%+ with support for 80+ languages, and Copilot assists the human agents in the same platform. 6
Watch-out: Billing runs on automated resolutions, and the tier decides the draw. Assisted escalations and contained resolutions do not count against your allowance; verified resolutions do. 1 A conversation ends 72 hours after the first email, two hours after the first message by default, and at hangup on voice. 1 Plans run from $19 per agent a month for Support Team to $115 for Suite Professional. 6
Human check: Check which tier your own reports land in before anyone forecasts the bill.

4. Agentforce Help Agent

Category: CRM
Use it for: An agent that resolves the case and then changes the order, the booking, or the account record.
Why it earns a slot: Salesforce's prebuilt service agent grounds itself on Salesforce Knowledge and accepts dragged-in files or a URL to crawl. 7 A preview pane tests answers before launch, and web chat, help portal, voice, and messaging are enabled from one screen. 7 Prepackaged actions manage cases out of the box, with order management, appointment scheduling, and account management added in Agentforce Builder. 7
The Agentforce Help Agent setup screen, showing web chat, help portal, and voice channels, with a preview answer that cites a source document.
The Help Agent setup Salesforce documents: three channels switched on from one screen, and a preview answer that cites the file it drew from. Source: Salesforce
Watch-out: Salesforce charges per resolution, and only when the agent resolves an issue start to finish. A customer who asks for a human or gives negative feedback is not charged. 7 Salesforce's reference number comes from its own help site, where it says 4.3 million inquiries were handled and 70% resolved. 7
Human check: Write the escalation rule first. "Ask for a human" needs a real destination, with the conversation context attached.

5. Ada

Category: Enterprise
Use it for: Chat and voice automation for large or regulated support operations.
Why it earns a slot: Ada runs AI agents across channels and languages from one platform. 8 Ada Computer adds API, code, and MCP tools so an agent can complete a task rather than describe one. 8 Ada states HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR, and PCI DSS compliance, plus zero data retention with its model providers. 8
Watch-out: Pricing sits behind a demo, so there is no list price to plan against. Ada's published outcomes, an 84% automated resolution rate and a 162% CSAT increase, come from the vendor's own measurement across its customer base. 8
Human check: Get the retention, residency, and audit terms in writing before the pilot starts.

6. Gorgias

Category: Ecommerce
Use it for: Shops where most tickets are questions about one specific order.
Why it earns a slot: Gorgias includes its AI Agent on every plan and charges only when a conversation is resolved. 9 The help desk itself is priced by ticket volume, from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month, and never per agent. 9 Gorgias says it handles customer conversations for 40% of Shopify brands, which is its own figure. 9
Watch-out: Two counts move at once, the tickets you pay to receive and the resolutions the agent charges for. Model both at your own volume before comparing plans.
Human check: Decide what the agent may change on an order before it can change anything.

7. Chatbase

Category: DIY
Use it for: A working support agent built on your own documentation, without changing help desk.
Why it earns a slot: Chatbase builds agents that answer across chat, email, and voice. 10 It connects to the help desk you already run, including Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom, HubSpot, Freshdesk, Gorgias, and Shopify. 10
Watch-out: Everything is metered in message credits. Hobby gives 700 credits for $40 a month, Standard 4,000 for $150, and Pro 15,000 for $500, with extra credits at $40 per 1,000. 10 Training content is capped at 10MB, 20MB, or 40MB by plan, and removing Chatbase branding costs $99 a month. 10
Human check: Read a week of real transcripts before you widen the rollout. A cheap agent with thin documents answers confidently and wrongly.

8. Observe.AI

Category: QA
Use it for: Proving that quality held once AI took a share of the volume.
Why it earns a slot: Observe.AI runs AI agents for customers, for frontline teams, and for operations. 11 The operations agents evaluate every interaction rather than a sample, generate coaching, and surface recurring causes. 11 Observe.AI states ISO 42001, GDPR, PCI, and SOC 2 controls. 11
Watch-out: This is a contracted platform quoted per agent. Observe.AI's own AWS Marketplace listing prices Real-Time AI at $828 per agent for a 12-month contract, with no refunds during the term. 12
Human check: Agree the scorecard before rollout. Automated scoring enforces exactly what you wrote down.

Assemble the stack

Four stages, one owner each:
  1. Ground. Guru, so customers and agents read verified answers instead of whatever a model remembers.
  2. Deflect. Intercom Fin, Zendesk AI agents, Ada, or Chatbase, picked by where your conversations already live.
  3. Act. Agentforce Help Agent and Gorgias, where resolving a ticket means changing a record.
  4. Assure. Observe.AI, so you see the gaps before a customer reports them.
The working rule: fix one stage at a time, and run a month before adding the next. Two tools covering one stage is a bill you can cancel.

Practical takeaways

  • Before you open a pricing page, name the stage that stalls: grounding, deflection, action, or assurance.
  • Price the meter. Per resolution, per credit, per agent, and per contract carry four different risks.
  • Read the definition of a resolution. Salesforce bills only end-to-end resolves, Zendesk draws only on verified resolutions, and Intercom reports three separate rates.
  • Ground before you deflect. An agent working from unverified documents answers confidently and wrongly.
  • Keep a documented exit to a human, and measure what arrives there.
  • Recheck the vendor map before you sign. Fin's move into Salesforce on 10 September 2026 reshuffles which products share a roadmap. 2
