What changed

Finance: Linde reported second-quarter sales of $9.289 billion, net income of $1.928 billion, and adjusted earnings per share of $4.50. It raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $17.70–$17.90, while noting strong demand in electronics, manufacturing, and chemicals and energy. 1 2
Technology: From 2 August, the European Commission's AI Office and national authorities began enforcing parts of the AI Act. Certain chatbots must disclose that they are AI, and AI-generated or altered content such as deepfakes must be labelled. Politics and security: An Italy-led EU mission inspected the sanctioned tanker Toa Payoh west of Pantelleria to check its flag and registration documents. The ship was not seized during the boarding. The Reuters report, carried with clear attribution by Global Banking & Finance Review, described it as the second such operation in less than two weeks. 5
