A direct-experience gap is easier to handle when you do three things: name it plainly, show the closest work you have done, and explain how you would ramp up.
Save these swaps for the next interview:
- Lead with adjacent proof. Show the scope, team, or outcome that transfers.
- Be precise about tools. Say what you have used instead of bluffing.
- End with a first-week plan. Make the learning curve feel concrete.
You do not need to pretend you have already done the job. Give the interviewer a clear reason to believe you can grow into it.
