The Staff Engineer who mistook architecture for proof
The problem is not a lack of technical vocabulary. It is a resume that names systems without showing the decisions, boundaries, or measurable change behind them.
This fictional composite gets the recruiter markup treatment:
- "Led architecture" becomes a named choice, a defined system scope, and a result.
- "Drove migration" becomes a migration size, partners, and a faster recovery path.
- "Improved reliability" becomes an incident change over a stated time period.
The useful test is simple: can a skeptical reader picture the system, the choice, and the result in one pass? If not, the bullet is still hiding.
Every name, company, and metric in this post is invented for critique.
