Your veterinarian's toolkit began with the working animal, not the clinic.
This three-card family tree follows a task lineage from village livestock healer through cattle-doctor and horse doctor / farrier to trained veterinary practice. The dates overlap because the work changed unevenly; this is a history of inherited tasks, not a clean handoff between job titles.
Today the same profession spans companion-animal clinics, farms, research, and public health.
