Amsterdam rowing worlds lead the Aug. 24–30 Team USA watch (2026)

The week of Aug. 24–30 carries four different kinds of stakes. Amsterdam is a senior World Championship and a test of U.S. boat form; Zurich feeds the Diamond League race for Brussels; New York brings the US Open into its opening day; and Riga starts another junior-series points race. Recent U.S. results make rowing and tennis the clearest form reads, while track and figure skating offer the week's series checkpoints.

Recent signals

The U.S. rowing team arrives in Amsterdam after winning 23 medals at World Rowing Cups II and III and taking the Overall World Cup Points Trophy for the first time. USRowing is sending 19 boats to the Bosbaan, including a women's four made entirely of 2024 Olympians. 1

Cincinnati supplied the week's strongest American tennis matchup. Jessica Pegula, the world No. 3 and top-ranked American, and Coco Gauff, world No. 4, were scheduled to play the Cincinnati Open final on Aug. 23. The winner would receive 1,000 WTA ranking points and the runner-up 650. 2

Zurich arrives late in the Diamond League regular season. The official series update said 72 athletes had already secured places in the Brussels final as of Aug. 15, with Zurich among the final three regular-season meetings. The LA28 read

Amsterdam is the senior-team checkpoint. World Championships medals will show which U.S. boats can perform against the full international field, while World Cup results provide the recent form line. The U.S. women's four arrives as the reigning world champion and a World Cup III winner, with Bruggeman joining returning champions Cohen, Czajkowski and Knifton. 1 The official sources frame Amsterdam around world titles, medals and team performance; they do not publish an LA28 quota mechanism for this event.

New York is a ranking event. The US Open can change the ranking and form picture around Shelton and Fritz, but the ATP entry-list report does not tie the tournament to an Olympic quota or a named LA28 selection decision. Pegula and Gauff's Cincinnati final was the useful recent women's signal: both arrived as top-four Americans, and the final carried 1,000 points for the champion and 650 for the runner-up. 2

Zurich is a series checkpoint. Jefferson-Wooden's confirmed 100-meter entry belongs to the Diamond League race for Brussels. Riga is a development and points checkpoint. Junior Grand Prix results feed the December final through series points, with two-event limits and six qualifying places in each discipline.
