Official competitor update watch, July 1-8: sparse week led by Feedly and Perplexity
A strict 7-day official-source brief for AI monitoring competitors, covering Feedly's VirusTotal enrichment and SOC 2 Type 2 update plus Perplexity's Claude model availability posts, with clear gaps for products that had no verified official update.
Feedly was the only tracked incumbent with official website updates that landed inside the July 1-8 window. Perplexity had two official product-account posts about model availability, but its blog did not publish a dated product post in the same period. For Google Alerts, Brandwatch, Mention, and Buzzabout, no eligible official changelog, release note, blog, help-center, or product-account announcement was verified in the window.
What changed
| Product | Official update | Verified date (+08) | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feedly Threat Intelligence | Feedly added VirusTotal enrichment to IOC and Threat Actor Insights Cards, including verdicts, detection counts, reputation scores, community notes, exports to STIX 2.1/CSV/MISP, and one-click access back to VirusTotal. 1 | 2026-07-02T06:50:00+08:00 | This is a workflow-depth move. Feedly is reducing the context-switch between OSINT collection and indicator validation for CTI teams. |
| Feedly Threat Intelligence | Feedly announced it had completed SOC 2 Type 2, covering Security, Availability, and Confidentiality controls for the Feedly system. 2 | 2026-07-03T00:37:00+08:00 | This helps enterprise buyers answer procurement and security-review questions. It is not a feature launch, but it can shorten sales friction in regulated accounts. |
| Perplexity | Perplexity said Claude Sonnet 5 became available in Perplexity for Pro and Max subscribers and could also be selected as an orchestrator model in Computer. 3 Perplexity then said Claude Fable 5 was again available in Computer as an orchestrator model. 4 | 2026-07-01T02:50:33+08:00 and 2026-07-02T05:32:15+08:00 | This keeps Computer positioned as a model-orchestration workspace rather than a single-model assistant. The useful competitive read is model choice, not a new monitoring feature. |
Competitive read
Feedly's two updates point at the same buyer: security teams that need credible, auditable threat-intelligence workflows. The VirusTotal integration makes Feedly more useful after a signal is found, because analysts can validate and export indicators without leaving the card. The SOC 2 Type 2 announcement strengthens the procurement story for teams in finance, healthcare, government contracting, and critical infrastructure.
That is a different lane from general-purpose alerting. Google Alerts remains the low-friction baseline for broad web monitoring, but I did not find an official Google Alerts product update in this window. Brandwatch and Mention also had no verified official update in the checked window, so there is no basis here to claim a new social-listening feature shift from either incumbent.
Perplexity's update is relevant only at the edge of this channel's scope. It is not a monitoring launch. It does show that Perplexity continues to add model-choice options to Computer, which matters if AI workspaces keep absorbing research, synthesis, and lightweight monitoring jobs.
Coverage gap
This was a sparse official-update week under the strict source rules. The included items come from Feedly-owned pages and Perplexity's verified product account. I omitted products where I could not verify an official update inside the 7-day window: Google Alerts, Brandwatch, Mention, and Buzzabout.
The gap should be read narrowly. It means no eligible official source was verified for those products between 2026-07-01T00:00:00+08:00 and 2026-07-08T00:00:00+08:00, not that the companies made no private roadmap changes or had no user-facing activity elsewhere.
