Sports Tickets Weekly Episode 16: Nineteen dollars on a Thursday night

Nineteen dollars. That is the cheapest seat to an NFL game on this week's board.

0:00 / 12:01
This week's ticket question is a comparison. Two seats, the same weekend, the same resale markets, and twelve times the price between them.
Tonight, Dallas hosts a Thursday night football game, and the cheapest seat on the major marketplaces is 19 dollars. On Sunday, Milwaukee hosts game one of the National League championship series, and the cheapest seat is 239.
Every price below is a resale snapshot taken on October 8, 2026, shortly after 16:00 UTC — just after noon Eastern. Vivid Seats displays all-in prices with fees included, and taxes and delivery may be separate; TickPick advertises no service fee on top of its listed price. Three marketplaces were readable for the Milwaukee game. SeatGeek did not return a listing page for us, so this is not a four-market consensus.

Basketball: two comebacks, fifty-six days apart

The preseason has already settled the biggest question of the summer. LeBron James is a Philadelphia 76er, and Philadelphia opened its preseason against the Knicks on Monday with Jaylen Brown beside him and Maxey and Embiid on the floor. The Lakers rebuilt without him: Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves lead that roster now, with Walker Kessler and Collin Sexton added around them. 1
The better story is at the other end of the roster. Damian Lillard and Tyrese Haliburton both tore an Achilles in the 2025 playoffs — Lillard in Game 4 of the Bucks and Pacers series, Haliburton 56 days later in Game 7 of the Finals — and both missed the entire following season. Both played on Wednesday night. Lillard scored 15 points in 19 minutes for Portland, opening with a three. Haliburton played in Ames, at the Iowa State arena where he went to college, and said afterwards it had been 472 days since he played a game. Ja Morant made his first appearance as a Trail Blazer on the same night. 2
Also on Wednesday: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did not miss a shot in his preseason debut, and Oklahoma City rookies Aday Mara and Bennett Stirtz again scored 22 and 20. Milwaukee's first season without Giannis Antetokounmpo opened under a new coach with Kel'el Ware and Tyler Herro in the rotation. Philadelphia lost center Ariel Hukporti to a right Achilles tear in its preseason opener. 2
None of it prices a seat. The first night of this season that will cost real money is October 20, when the Knicks raise their championship banner and Philadelphia comes to the Garden. 1

Hockey: a farewell season

Alex Ovechkin announced this week that 2026-27 will be his last season in the NHL. His sons introduced him at the home opener, and he was on the ice as Washington beat Pittsburgh 5-3 on Wednesday. 34
The first week around him has been lopsided. Vegas has the league's scoring leader in Jack Eichel, with 10 points in four games. Colorado is averaging seven goals a game. Philadelphia has not won yet and carries a minus-12 goal differential, second worst in the league. Thursday's slate runs to 10 games, and the one to watch is Toronto at Vegas, with the league's scoring leader on the ice. 3
There is no date to price here yet. Ovechkin's last game will not be played until the spring, and a farewell only gets expensive once the schedule says when it ends.

Baseball: three series closed, one alive

Three of the four division series are finished. Tampa Bay swept the Yankees in three straight, closing it 4-3 on Wednesday — the top seed in the American League has not lost a game in October. Milwaukee beat San Diego 3-1, and Los Angeles beat Atlanta 3-1, so the National League championship series is set: the Dodgers at the Brewers, starting Sunday in Milwaukee. The American League championship series opens October 12 at Tampa Bay. 5
The team still playing is the season's best story. The White Sox lost 121 games two years ago, a record. Two years later they swept Houston out of the wild-card round and lead Cleveland 2-1 in the division series, with Murakami at 35 home runs, Vargas at 33 and Montgomery at 31. 56
Cleveland kept it alive on Wednesday with a 9-3 win, so Game 4 is tonight in Chicago and the Guardians have to win it. A week ago this was the cheapest ticket in baseball: at the end of the regular season, a seat to watch Cleveland play in Kansas City cost 17 dollars. Tonight, the same franchise's cheapest seat in Chicago is 227. 5

Football: three unbeaten, five winless

Week 4 sorted the league into two extremes. Kansas City, San Francisco and Minnesota are all 4-0; Tennessee, Houston, Tampa Bay, Miami and the Chargers are all 0-4. 7
Minnesota reached 4-0 without scoring a touchdown — all 15 of its points against Miami were Will Reichard field goals. Kansas City won a game of unbeatens 30-27 over the Raiders behind Kenneth Walker's 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns. New England beat Buffalo 29-26 on a late Drake Maye touchdown pass. Dallas beat Houston 34-30, with CeeDee Lamb catching 17 passes for 189 yards. The Rams won 24-20 at Philadelphia, which went 0-for-12 on third down. Carolina beat Detroit 32-26 at night, and Atlanta scored 45 on New Orleans. 78
Two injuries carry into this week. Lamar Jackson left with an ankle injury and Baltimore is calling him day to day; Ja'Marr Chase left with a concussion. 8
Thursday night is Tampa Bay at Dallas. Baker Mayfield dislocated his right thumb and is out; undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels makes his second straight start, and he was the first undrafted rookie quarterback since the 1970 merger to start a game in Week 4 or earlier. Mayfield could return as early as Week 6. 9
The rest of Week 5: Philadelphia and Jacksonville in London on Sunday morning, Chicago at Green Bay, Cincinnati at Miami, Las Vegas at New England, Minnesota at New Orleans, Cleveland at the Jets, Indianapolis at Pittsburgh, the Giants at Washington, Denver at the Chargers, Detroit at Arizona, San Francisco at Seattle, Baltimore at Atlanta at night, and Buffalo at the Rams on Monday. Kansas City and Carolina are on bye. 10

The ticket board

  • Dodgers at Brewers, NLCS Game 1, Sunday, October 11, American Family Field: Vivid Seats showed a $248 floor and a listed $394 average, with highlighted rows at $401 in the lower level, $427 in the outfield corner and $651 in the club section. Displayed prices include fees. 11
  • The same game on TickPick starts at $239, with no service fee added at checkout. 12
  • StubHub's readable page starts at $270, and its listings for NLCS Games 3, 4 and 5 at Dodger Stadium start at $180, $168 and $168. 13
  • Buccaneers at Cowboys, Thursday Night Football, tonight, AT&T Stadium: Vivid Seats showed a $19 floor and a listed $274 average, with highlighted upper reserved rows at $70, $73 and $77. Displayed prices include fees. 14
  • Guardians at White Sox, ALDS Game 4, tonight, Rate Field: Vivid Seats showed a $227 floor and a $392 average, with the deal-score rows it highlighted running from $536 to $934 for club seats. 15
The football average needs the warning it has earned for weeks. A listed average of $274 with a $19 floor and highlighted seats at $70 describes what is left on the market, not what a budget buyer pays. Budget from the floor, and from the section you would actually accept.
The value call is Tampa Bay at Dallas tonight, at the $19 Vivid floor. Be honest about what it buys: the visitor is 0-4 and starting a rookie quarterback making his second career start, and Dallas is favored. You are buying a night in a big stadium, not a close game — and at 19 dollars all in, that is still the best bargain on this board. If you want the baseball instead, the Milwaukee floor is $239 across three markets, or the same series drops to $168 when it moves to Los Angeles next week.
Three boundaries matter. These are single snapshots from one morning, and playoff prices move within hours. Vivid's displayed prices include fees while taxes and delivery may be separate; TickPick adds no service fee. Inspect the section, the row, the seat count, and whether the seats are together before checkout.

The fantasy line

StatMuse's two-week window, September 24 through October 8, is led by Bijan Robinson at 60 fantasy points, ahead of Brock Purdy at 50.9 and Kenneth Walker at 49.2. 16
The trap sits behind those numbers. The two biggest single-game scorers of Week 4 are both on bye in Week 5: Tetairoa McMillan put up 31.2 for Carolina, the most in the league, and Kenneth Walker ran for 177 yards for Kansas City. Neither can help a lineup on Sunday. 1017
Robinson plays. Atlanta hosts Baltimore on Sunday night, so the player leading the two-week window is available. The boundary is the sample: two weeks is two weeks, not a trend. Check your scoring and your lineup before you move.
The week hands you one bargain and one warning. Tonight in Dallas, 19 dollars buys an NFL game. Sunday in Milwaukee, 239 buys a championship series. The market priced the building in Dallas and the season in Milwaukee.
This episode's ticket snapshot was checked on October 8, 2026, shortly after 16:00 UTC, just after noon Eastern. Listings can move after publication.
