AI tools give agents a sandbox, a memory, and a leash

A six-theme scan of 14 newly released and trending AI tools from GitHub and Product Hunt, covering the sandbox an agent runs inside, memory that outlives the session, rules and checks placed around the coding agent, standing agent teams, one endpoint for the agent's tools, and business software built with the agent as a user.

New AI Tools Weekly
New AI Tools Weekly@NeoDrop Official
This issue covers AI tools that launched or gained traction between September 28 and October 4, 2026. Across those seven days the releases converged on one move: they hand an agent the things a person used to hold for it. A sandbox it runs inside while your credentials stay outside. A memory that outlives the session. A set of rules installed into it. A standing team to join. One door to your tools. And a business product where the agent, and not only the account holder, is a user.
GitHub Trending supplied the momentum signal, through weekly star counts across all languages, Python and TypeScript. 1 Product Hunt supplied the launch signal, and its weekly leaderboard for September 28 – October 4 was readable this run, so the ranks below are the board's own positions. 2 X search was supplementary, and it returned crypto promotion, event notices and general commentary, so no item in this issue rests on it.
The 14 tools below sit in six themes. Each entry gives the discovery signal, the access and pricing model, what the tool mechanically does, the closest alternative it differs from, and a bounded first test.

At a glance

  • The runtime an agent executes inside — OpenShell, Monospace
  • Memory that survives the session — PageIndex, LUCI Desktop, Octop
  • Rules and checks around the coding agent — Impeccable, VibeDefend, iFixAi
  • Standing teams of agents — OpenRig, ZooWork
  • One endpoint for the agent's tools — CoreSpeed, MCP Connectors by Databox
  • Business software with the agent as a user — Statable Analytics, Yedric.ai

The runtime an agent executes inside

An agent that reads files, installs packages and calls APIs needs a place to do it that is neither your laptop nor your production network. The two entries here draw that boundary from opposite ends: one confines the process itself, the other confines what the process can reach.
ToolCurrent signalAccess / pricingWhat it doesDifferentiationTry-it test
OpenShell (NVIDIA)GitHub Trending weekly: +5,996 stars (14.9k total) on the all-language board. 3Apache-2.0, open source and self-hosted. Runs on Linux, macOS on Apple Silicon, or Windows under WSL 2 (experimental), on Docker or Podman. The 0.1.x line is the current stable release. 3It instruments the kernel so a declared policy is enforced on every file access, system call and network connection as the agent runs, and it gives each agent its own sandbox. The agent never holds a real credential; OpenShell attaches one only to a request bound for an approved endpoint, and a policy change is formally verified for the access it would grant before a person signs it off. 3A container confines a process to whatever the image was built with. OpenShell confines it to a declared policy, verifies that policy formally before it changes, and keeps the secret out of the sandbox until an approved call is on its way out. 3Run one agent under a default-deny network policy, then approve a single endpoint. Check that the denial log names each blocked host, and that the credential appears in nothing the agent can read.
Monospace (Directus)Product Hunt weekly leaderboard, September 28 – October 4: rank 1, tagged API, Developer Tools and Data. 2Free tier with one workspace, three users, standard connectors, the REST API, the typed SDK, and MCP with integrated AI. Business and Enterprise are custom-priced through a demo. 4It sits between your data and everyone who builds on it. You connect databases, REST APIs and SaaS systems; Monospace introspects the schema and queries the source in real time, with no migration and no copy of the data, then exposes one permissions model over a REST API, a typed SDK and MCP. The paid tiers add custom roles and policies, row- and column-level security, SSO, service accounts and audit logs. 5An API gateway routes calls between services you already expose. Monospace generates an interface over data that had none and governs people, apps and agents under one model, with the data left where it sits. 5Connect one read-only replica, expose one table to an agent over MCP, and confirm the agent can return neither a column you excluded nor a single write.
OpenShell governs the machine the agent runs on; Monospace governs the systems it reaches. A team running agents on its own hardware will want both, and for each the first test is a denial: whether the log can show you what the agent was stopped from doing.

Memory that survives the session

An agent's context window forgets the moment the session ends. Three releases this week put the memory somewhere durable, and each answers a different question about who owns it: a retrieval engine that reasons over documents, a local record of your own working day, and a self-hosted assistant for a whole group.
ToolCurrent signalAccess / pricingWhat it doesDifferentiationTry-it test
PageIndex (VectifyAI)GitHub Trending weekly: +2,824 stars (38.7k total) on the Python board. 6MIT licence. The SDK runs locally and free with your own LLM key (pip install -U pageindex), or the same client can point at PageIndex Cloud with an API key. 6A vectorless retrieval engine. PageIndex builds a hierarchical tree index for each document, then has an LLM reason its way down the tree the way a person turns to the right section of a long report. Indexing and retrieval are separate steps, and a file-level layer extends one tree across a whole corpus. 6A vector index retrieves by similarity and returns the passages that look closest. PageIndex retrieves by reasoning over the document's own structure, so a question worded differently from the text can still find its page, and it can show the path it took. 6Index one long report, then ask a question whose wording matches none of the text. The test is whether retrieval lands on the right section and can name the page it came from.
LUCI Desktop (Memories.ai)Product Hunt weekly leaderboard, September 28 – October 4: rank 7, tagged Productivity and Artificial Intelligence. 2Free, fully local, on macOS and Windows. 7It records what happens on your screen, transcribes your calls on the device, links each spoken line to what was on screen when it was said, and makes that history searchable by Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. It connects itself, with nothing to configure in the agent. 7A screen recorder keeps a file for a person to open and scrub through. LUCI keeps the record underneath the summary, so the agent can search broadly and then drill to the literal error string or version number. 7After a normal working day, ask your agent for the exact error string from a terminal you had open. The test is whether it returns the string or a paraphrase of it.
Octop (TencentCloud)GitHub Trending weekly: +1,496 stars (6.8k total) on the Python board. 8MIT licence, self-hosted, free. It installs from PyPI and runs on Python 3.12 or newer. 8A self-hosted AI assistant built for more than one person, with a multi-agent architecture and long-term memory. It runs on your own machine, so the record a household or a small team builds up stays on that machine. 8A hosted assistant keeps your memory on the vendor's servers and bills per seat. Octop keeps a multi-user assistant and its memory on hardware you control, under an MIT licence. 8Stand it up for two users with one shared room, then check whether one user's private memory shows up in the other's answers.
PageIndex is the memory you point at documents, and it lives inside your own process. LUCI is the memory of your own working day, and it asks you to accept a recorder that is always on. Octop is the memory a small group accumulates together, and it puts the whole assistant on hardware you own. The shared question to test first is whether the store can tell whose memory it is returning.

Rules and checks around the coding agent

A coding agent is useful precisely because it writes and runs code on its own, which is why a rule that arrives after the diff is worth less than one the agent works under. Three tools this week take the same shape: a set of rules or checks placed around the coding agent, covering how its output looks, what it is forbidden to do, and whether it did more than it was asked.
ToolCurrent signalAccess / pricingWhat it doesDifferentiationTry-it test
Impeccable (pbakaus)GitHub Trending weekly: +4,242 stars (76.6k total) on the all-language board. 9Apache-2.0, free. npx impeccable install, then /impeccable init inside your coding tool. 9A design skill for coding agents: one skill, 24 commands and 61 deterministic detector rules aimed at the tells of AI-generated frontend. init writes a PRODUCT.md recording the product's audience, constraints and voice, and the CLI and the browser extension run the deterministic rules with no LLM and no API key. 9It started from Anthropic's frontend-design skill and added a rules engine. The checks for Inter everywhere, the purple-to-blue gradient and the rounded icon tile run as code, so a model is not the judge of its own output. 9Run the detectors over one screen an agent built and read which rules fire. The test is whether the report names the specific rule and the element it fired on.
VibeDefend (CybeDefend)Product Hunt weekly leaderboard, September 28 – October 4: rank 17, tagged Developer Tools, Security and Vibe coding. 2Free tier with 10 static scans and 50 AI credits, no card required. Developer at €19/mo, Team at €229/mo, Scale at €640/mo, Enterprise custom. 10One command installs it inside Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Copilot and Codex. It injects your business and security rules into the agent, scans each diff as it is written, and guards single actions: reading a raw secret, installing a package with known malware, or writing a secret to a public repository is blocked before it runs. 11A scanner reviews code after it exists. VibeDefend sits inside the agent and stops the action while the agent is still working, so the blocked step never reaches the repository. 11Install it on one repository, add a rule that a refund above a threshold needs a manager role, then ask the agent to raise the limit. The test is whether the edit carries the role check or is refused.
iFixAi (ifixai-ai)Product Hunt weekly leaderboard, September 28 – October 4: rank 5; also GitHub Trending weekly, +4,754 stars (20.7k total). 212A free open-source engine under Apache-2.0, self-hosted with your own model keys, covering 60 inspections with community support. The paid Startup, Growth and Enterprise tiers are priced per agent, per month; the page does not publish the figures. 13It audits what an agent did rather than what it produced. An audit can be run by a person or by the agent itself, and it looks for hidden information, decisions the agent overrode, and actions nobody authorised, returning findings in under two minutes. 13An evaluation suite checks whether the task came out right. iFixAi checks the process for the actions the agent took that were never part of the task. 12Point it at an agent whose evaluation score is already green and read whether it surfaces an action the agent took outside its brief.
Impeccable governs how the work looks, VibeDefend governs what the agent may do, and iFixAi governs whether it did more than it was asked. Impeccable and VibeDefend install as rules the agent works under, and iFixAi reads the record of what it did. The first test for all three is to make the agent attempt the thing the rule forbids and watch what is refused.

Standing teams of agents

One agent in one terminal forgets the team around it. Two releases this week turn a pile of sessions into a persistent group with roles, shared context and a place where the work sits between runs.
ToolCurrent signalAccess / pricingWhat it doesDifferentiationTry-it test
OpenRig (mvschwarz)GitHub Trending weekly: +4,251 stars (5.0k total) on the TypeScript board. 14Apache-2.0, free. Needs Node.js 22 or 24 and tmux on macOS or Linux, and installs from npm as @openrig/cli. 14You define a team in YAML and boot it with one command, with Claude Code and Codex running inside the same rig. A lead agent coordinates specialists across teams and brings back the results and the decisions that need you. Teams are persistent, with roles, shared context and owned work held at stable addresses, and a terminal UI shows the rig as a graph and as a table of seats. 14A harness wraps one model and one session. A rig wraps several harnesses into a team whose context and work survive a restart instead of dying with the terminal. 14Boot a two-agent team in a repository, get one reviewed change, then restart it and confirm the team resumes at the same addresses with its context intact.
ZooWorkProduct Hunt weekly leaderboard, September 28 – October 4: rank 9, tagged Productivity, Developer Tools and Artificial Intelligence. 2Pro at $30/mo under a limited 70% discount from $100, with 6,000 credits plus 14,000 bonus credits and a managed runtime of 4 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB storage; enterprise through sales. 15It builds agents from a conversation, starting from a library of role templates, and runs them on a managed runtime with scheduled tasks, IM channel integrations and human approval gates. An Agent Skill packages the role, the company knowledge, the working SOPs, the delivery standards and the tool permissions the role may touch. 16A chatbot builder produces a bot that answers. ZooWork packages a job description, runs it to a deliverable and pauses at an approval gate before it writes back to a system. 16Build one role agent from a template and let it run a task that ends in an approval request. The test is whether its deliverable meets the "done" standard you wrote into the skill.
OpenRig is the answer for a developer who wants the team on their own machine, defined in a file and visible as a graph. ZooWork is the answer for a team that wants the runtime, the templates and the approval gate hosted for it. Both put the same question first: what the team keeps between runs, and where it keeps it.

One endpoint for the agent's tools

Every new agent repeats the same setup, wiring each app to each agent and then trying to remember which of them can spend your money. Two releases this week put the connections behind a single endpoint and the spend behind one control.
ToolCurrent signalAccess / pricingWhat it doesDifferentiationTry-it test
CoreSpeedProduct Hunt weekly leaderboard, September 28 – October 4: rank 12, tagged Productivity, Marketing and Developer Tools. 2Free: 3,000 credits over 90 days, one member, 200 MB of memory and 30 days of history. Pro at $20/mo raises that to 10,000 credits a month, up to 25 members, 2 GB of memory and a year of history; enterprise is custom. Tools are metered per call. 17One MCP endpoint carries your app connections, memory, built-in tools and spending controls to any agent you run. OAuth connectors cover Gmail, Slack, Notion, GitHub, X, Google Calendar, Drive, Sheets, HubSpot, Figma and more, and the built-in tools add media generation, web search, scraping and maps. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, OpenClaw and Hermes are supported, and an activity log records each call. 18Wiring each app to each agent multiplies the credentials you hold and the surfaces you have to audit. CoreSpeed connects an app once, and every agent reaches it through one endpoint under a spend cap and one log. 18Connect one low-risk account, set a spend cap below your tolerance, and run a task that touches it. Read the activity log to confirm each call and its cost, then check what the agent does when the cap is reached.
MCP Connectors (Databox)Product Hunt: launched September 28, 2026. 19Freemium: a free-forever plan with one user, three data sources, one dashboard, 10 custom metrics and 50 AI credits a month, and paid plans from $14/mo billed annually. 20Databox collects performance data from 130+ tools, spreadsheets, databases and APIs behind a semantic layer that gives every metric one shared meaning, then exposes it through an AI Analyst that answers questions and an MCP server that grounds other AI tools in the same numbers and business context. 20A dashboard is read by a person, and a metric's definition lives in that person's head. The MCP connectors put the same governed metric, with its definition attached, where any agent can query and act on it. 19Connect one data source and ask the AI Analyst a question that needs two systems to answer. The test is whether the number matches your own and whether it will say which metric definition it used.
CoreSpeed connects the tools an agent acts through, and Databox connects the numbers an agent reasons from. Both sell the same thing: one governed surface, so the credentials and the metric definitions live in one place rather than in each agent's configuration.

Business software with the agent as a user

The last move this week is quieter. Two products are built so that an agent, and not only the account holder, is the one reading and acting. One hands the agent the analytics; the other hands it the controls of the app itself.
ToolCurrent signalAccess / pricingWhat it doesDifferentiationTry-it test
Statable AnalyticsProduct Hunt weekly leaderboard, September 28 – October 4: rank 11, tagged Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. 2A free 30-day trial with no card, then plans from $9/mo for 10,000 monthly pageviews up to $169/mo for 10 million, with annual billing at least 20% cheaper and free access for .edu, .github.io and .gitlab.io sites. 21Cookieless web analytics built for a person and an agent at once. You use the dashboard, and Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex connect over MCP to read reports, analyse traffic and configure tracking, goals and funnels. Data is hosted in the EU, and most sites need no cookie banner. 22Google Analytics exposes a large API aimed at analysts and needs a consent surface in front of it. Statable puts the analytics itself, cookieless and without a banner, in reach of the agent that is already asking. 22Install the script on one site, then ask your agent for the top landing page and a funnel you configured, and check both numbers against the dashboard.
Yedric.aiProduct Hunt weekly leaderboard, September 28 – October 4: rank 10, tagged SaaS, Developer Tools and Artificial Intelligence. 2Stated as free, with no credit card required. 23It turns a SaaS app into one an assistant can operate. A user says what they want in plain language and Yedric completes it with tool calls against your documentation, your APIs and the app's own tools, within the actions you allow it to take. It already runs inside several Shopify apps, and it turns those conversations into product intelligence. 23A support chatbot answers a question and points at a help article. Yedric is built on tool calling, so it performs the change inside the product and leaves a record of what it did. 23Connect one reversible action, such as the email-notification toggle, and ask the assistant to change it. The test is whether the setting changes in the product and the action is logged.
Taken together, the six themes move one thing: authority that used to sit with the person now sits with the agent, and the week's releases are the machinery deciding how far that authority reaches and who can take it back. That narrows the first test worth running. For any entry here, ask what the agent may do without you and who can revoke it, then pick the one whose blast radius you can bound in an afternoon.
