70 new Ivy academic openings this week — September 12–18, 2026

A deadline-first scan of 70 academic openings posted September 12–18, 2026 across all eight Ivy League universities, with field keywords, appointment tracks, deadlines and direct application routes.

At a glance

This issue lists 70 academic openings with a posting or open date between September 12 and September 18, 2026: 15 at Harvard, 12 at Yale, 24 at Penn, 13 at Cornell, two each at Princeton and Columbia, and one each at Brown and Dartmouth. Eleven are postdoctoral or fellowship positions; 59 are faculty appointments. 1234
The table is the scanning surface: rank and appointment type, department or unit, field keywords, the date the post went up, the deadline or review date, and the application route, one row per position. Harvard's own posting feed timestamps every record and its posting pages state the appointment, the field and the materials required. Cornell's posting pages state a review date in place of a deadline. Yale's and Penn's public inventories publish the title, the unit, the open date and the application link, but leave the appointment language and the deadline blank on the pages a reader can open.
Princeton, Columbia, Brown and Dartmouth do not publish a posting date on the pages that list their searches, so those rows name the dated source they come from. Where a school left a field blank, the row says "Not published" rather than leaving it empty; where a posting states no deadline at all, the row says "Not stated". Every date carries its year.

Harvard

All 15 Harvard records carry a publication timestamp from the university's own posting feed, and each posting page states the appointment type, the field and the materials to submit. Five are postdoctoral or fellowship positions; the other ten are faculty searches.
The two Black Hole Initiative fellowships are separate calls: the general one is open across fundamental physics, gravitational-wave and horizon-scale observation work, while the BHEX fellowship is tied to a proposed space-based observatory. BHEX applications are invited by 5:00 p.m. Eastern on November 11, 2026, with a nominal start of September 1, 2027 and three-year appointments; the general fellowship states no deadline. 4
Three Harvard searches are worth reading together because the rank differs even though the subject overlaps. The Statistics department opened a tenured full professorship and a separate tenure-track professorship, both in statistics and AI, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences opened a tenure-track professorship at the interface of AI and life sciences that is appointed into whichever of five life-sciences departments fits the candidate. 4
The Kennedy School posted four records: a junior urban economist (November 1, 2026 for full consideration), a senior tenured professorship in technology and public policy (September 30, 2026 for full consideration), and an energy and climate change search that pairs a tenure-track line in political science or economics with a separate lecturer line. Both energy posts start in fall 2027. The technology and public policy posting directs submissions to a different Harvard posting number than the one it is listed under, so apply through the link printed in the advertisement. 4

Yale

Yale's Provost index publishes a title, an academic unit, a location and an open date for each search, and links straight to the application on Interfolio. Twelve records opened between September 15 and September 18, 2026; none carries an open date on September 12, 13 or 14. 1
Seven of the twelve are Yale School of Medicine searches in Digestive Diseases, Neonatology, Infectious Disease, Psychiatry and Radiology. The other five are two accounting searches at the School of Management, computational biophysics and biochemistry, applied data science in Statistics and Data Science, and Soviet and post-Soviet culture in Slavic Languages and Literatures. 1
The index is the whole of what Yale publishes. It states no deadline and no term for any of the twelve, and the Interfolio application pages do not add them, so the deadline column above reads "Not published" for every Yale row. The two accounting searches are the only Yale records here that name a rank above assistant professor. 1

Penn

Penn's faculty inventory publishes an open date, a department and a direct application route for each search, and it leaves the Position open through field blank on every record. No deadline can be read off the Penn rows, and the inventory gives title-level field signals rather than full job descriptions. 2
Fifteen of the 24 are Perelman School of Medicine searches, six are Wharton School searches, and the other three are in Bioengineering, in the School of Arts and Sciences Biology department, and at the School of Dental Medicine. The medical records include three at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, including a tenure-track experimental pathology position, and four rehabilitation medicine appointments. Wharton's six are two statistics and data science searches at different ranks, two accounting searches at different ranks, business economics and public policy, and real estate. 2
Two of the Penn records are leadership appointments rather than ordinary openings: the Chair of the Department of Medicine, and the Assistant Director of the Clinical Immunology Laboratory. 2

Cornell

Cornell's recruitment inventory posted 13 qualifying searches between September 14 and September 16, 2026, and each record links to a full posting page that carries the requirements and the review date. Cornell states review dates rather than hard deadlines, and where a posting says applications are reviewed as they arrive it says so in the table. 3
The engineering and science searches close by review date: planetary science on October 30, 2026, experimental quantum physics on November 1, 2026, low-temperature geochemistry and the neural mechanisms of natural behaviour both on November 15, 2026. The Operations Research and Information Engineering search is reviewing candidates as they arrive, and the eBird postdoc starts reviewing four weeks after it was posted. The humanities and social science searches run on similar dates: the modern Middle East history search on November 15, 2026 and the international trade search on November 7, 2026. 3
Two of the 13 records have an inventory title that disagrees with the posting text. The record titled for Materials Science and Engineering opens a description for a low-temperature geochemistry search in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, and the Industrial Organization record carries the text of the international trade advertisement. The table gives the inventory title and the field keywords from the posting text, and the posting page settles it in one click. 3

Princeton

Princeton moved its academic hiring to Interfolio in January 2026, and its own academic job page publishes no posting date and no deadline. The two records below come from dated job-board entries for Princeton searches. 56
The drama professorship is a tenured senior hire shared between the Department of English and the Lewis Center for the Arts; applications received by December 1, 2026 get a thorough review, and the salary range runs from $139,000 at associate professor to $288,000 at full professor. The School of Architecture search is tenured at associate or full professor level, starts in July 2027, and gives fullest consideration to applications by November 1, 2026; it asks for a portfolio of built or research work alongside the usual letter, CV and statements. 56

Columbia

Columbia's own academic job site lists 654 postings and shows "Open until filled" where a posting date would go, so the two Columbia records this week are dated from the listings named in their rows: for the Lamont-Doherty fellowship that date is the day its listing appeared, while the hepatology posting carries its own posting date. 7
The hepatology position is a full-time clinical faculty appointment in the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases at the medical center, with on-call coverage of the liver service, teaching of fellows and residents, and participation in clinical or basic research. It requires a completed gastroenterology and transplant hepatology fellowship, board eligibility in both, and the UNOS qualifications for a transplant physician; the posted salary range is $330,000 to $600,000. 7
The Lamont-Doherty fellowship is the observatory's general postdoctoral programme in Earth, environmental and climate sciences, including a forest-ecology fellowship with fieldwork at Black Rock Forest. Fellowships run 24 months with a $12,000 research allowance and an annual salary of $72,116, and applications close on October 15, 2026. 8

Brown

Brown publishes its faculty and postdoctoral searches on its Interfolio board rather than on a dated page of its own. One search carries an open date inside this week's window: a LunaSCOPE postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences, opened September 15, 2026 and tied to NASA's Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute. The posting states no deadline. 9

Dartmouth

Dartmouth's faculty recruitment hub and its provost's directory of faculty searches link out to department boards and to Interfolio without publishing posting dates. The one dated Dartmouth opening this week is at the Tuck School of Business: a tenure-track finance position starting in the 2027-28 academic year, open to candidates at the experienced associate level with or without tenure, with review beginning October 1, 2026. Tuck's own recruiting page lists four open faculty searches, and the finance one is the only one opened this week. 10

Deadline triage

  • September 30, 2026: Harvard's senior professorship in technology and public policy, full consideration. 4
  • October 1, 2026: Dartmouth Tuck's finance search begins review. 10
  • October 15, 2026: Columbia's Lamont-Doherty postdoctoral fellowships close. 8
  • October 30, 2026: Cornell's planetary science search begins review. 3
  • November 1, 2026: Harvard's junior urban economics search (full consideration), Princeton's architectural design search (fullest consideration), Cornell's experimental quantum physics search (review begins). 346
  • November 7, 2026: Cornell's international trade search gives priority to applications received by this date. 3
  • November 11, 2026: Harvard's BHEX fellowship, preferred deadline. 4
  • November 15, 2026: Cornell's modern Middle East history, low-temperature geochemistry and neural mechanisms searches, all for full consideration. 3
  • December 1, 2026: Princeton's drama professorship, thorough review. 5
  • December 4, 2026: Harvard's time-domain astrophysics postdoc, full consideration. 4
  • Reviewed on arrival or until filled: Cornell's next-generation diagnostics and eBird postdocs, and Cornell's operations research search. 3
  • Not published: all 12 Yale records and all 24 Penn records, plus the Brown postdoc. These schools leave the deadline field empty, which is a different thing from a position having no deadline. 12

Eight-school coverage

This scan inspected all eight target institutions for postings published between September 12 and September 18, 2026. Entries are limited to tenure-track, tenured, clinical, research-track and teaching-track faculty appointments, plus postdoctoral and fellowship positions. Visiting appointments, teaching-only lectureships and instructorships, and staff or research-associate roles posted in the same week are excluded, which removed one Penn lectureship, one Cornell visiting lectureship and one Cornell teaching-faculty position from the count.
Harvard's official posting feed published 15 qualifying records between September 14 and September 18. Yale's Provost index opened 12 between September 15 and September 18; it lists no qualifying record on September 12, 13 or 14. Penn's inventory recorded 25 open dates in the window, of which 24 qualify. Cornell's inventory recorded 17 postings in the window, 15 of which qualify on role; two of those 15 are left out of the table because the inventory and the posting page disagree on the date, and the other 13 are listed above.
Princeton, Columbia, Brown and Dartmouth publish academic openings without a posting date, so their six entries come from dated listings for those institutions, named in each row. 510 Each of the four also runs searches this issue could not date, and those are left out rather than listed with a guess.
