Global English Word Watch #3: six-seven, clanker, lowkenuinely, sendy and jawn

The Urban Dictionary date for each term is the oldest dated entry found on the checked term page. Urban Dictionary is user-submitted, so an early entry records one contributor's usage; it does not prove who coined the term. Where an older entry uses a different sense, that distinction is stated.

These five terms show different routes into wider English: a Philadelphia rap track amplified by basketball clips, a science-fiction insult repurposed for anti-AI talk, a TikTok portmanteau, an action-sports phrase turned schoolyard meme, and a Philadelphia all-purpose noun moving into national dictionaries.

Meaning. Six-seven, also written 67 or 6-7, is a nonsensical interjection used especially by teens and tweens. It can appear as a random answer, after someone says the numbers six and seven, or with a palms-up, alternating hand motion. The point is usually the shared reference rather than a stable definition. 12

Urban Dictionary. The oldest dated entry found for the exact phrase six seven is 18 March 2025, by UrSpot4brainRot. It describes middle- and high-school students chanting the phrase when the numbers appear and calls it a TikTok trend. This is a user-submitted record, not proof that the meme began on that date. 3

Background. The phrase is linked to Philadelphia rapper Skrilla's 2024 track "Doot Doot (6 7)". TikTok and Instagram clips paired the sound with NBA player LaMelo Ball, whose listed height is 6 feet 7 inches, helping move it from a song reference into a school and sports meme. By October 2025, reporting described pupils shouting it in classrooms in both the United States and the United Kingdom. 14

Meaning. Clanker is a derogatory term for a robot, an AI system, or AI technology. It can be aimed at a fictional machine, a game enemy, or a real chatbot. 5

Urban Dictionary. The oldest dated entry found on the checked clanker page is 13 October 2019, by Blackmouth. It uses the word as an insult for a robotic individual, a sense that predates the current anti-AI wave. Urban Dictionary's page also contains a 26 November 2019 entry that calls it a droid slur. These are user-submitted records, not evidence of coinage. 6

Background. The word has a longer science-fiction history: Merriam-Webster notes regular use for "robot" in science-fiction writing since 1958, followed by its use for battle droids in the Star Wars universe, including Republic Commando and The Clone Wars. Its 2025 revival was helped by players of Helldivers 2, where it was used for robotic enemies, and by social-media posts turning it into a catch-all insult for AI. Euronews linked the new wave to frustration with AI hallucinations, human-sounding chatbots, and fears about job loss. 57

Meaning. Lowkenuinely blends low-key and genuinely. It marks a sincere feeling or opinion while keeping the tone casual and understated: "I lowkenuinely miss the weekend" is earnest without sounding dramatic. 89

Urban Dictionary. The oldest dated entry found is 26 November 2025, by James Jamesington. It defines the word as a combination of genuinely and lowkey. A second entry appeared the next day with the same basic explanation. These are user-submitted usage records. 10

Background. Merriam-Webster places the word's emergence on TikTok in late 2025. Dictionary.com says an early known use is thought to come from @cammmmmm22, whose November 2025 meme text used the blend, and notes that Gen Z and Gen Alpha adopted it in posts and conversations. The older base low-key is widely associated with African American Vernacular English and later spread into mainstream informal English, so this new coinage carries an older linguistic ingredient into a younger meme community. 89

Meaning. Get sendy means to go all out or commit to something with boldness. In its newer social-media use, it can accompany a deliberately silly pretend beer-shotgunning gesture performed with food or an everyday object. 1112

Urban Dictionary. The oldest dated entry found on the sendy page is 5 March 2008, by EGA, but it records an unrelated noun for a man. The earliest matching action-sports sense found is 4 December 2016, by OGpeterpan, who described extreme "going for it" in snowboarding and other daring activities. A September 2025 entry records the newer NELK-linked party and meme use. None of these user submissions proves coinage. 13

Background. The action-sports community used send it for committing enthusiastically to a difficult move, especially in skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and climbing. Dictionary.com says getting sendy was popularized by a 2023 NELK Boys video that became a TikTok sound in mid-2025. It now moves between those sports communities and Gen Alpha or teen social media, where the phrase is often intentionally ridiculous rather than a literal description of risk-taking. 1112

Meaning. Jawn is an informal Philadelphia-area all-purpose noun for a person, place, thing, event, or situation whose name does not need to be specified. In Philadelphia-area Black slang, it can have more specific meanings, so context and speaker matter. 14

Urban Dictionary. The oldest dated entry found on the checked page is 7 March 2003, by Jay Sticky. It describes jawn as a Philadelphia word that can stand in for almost anything. This is a user-submitted record, not proof of the term's origin. 15

Background. The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia describes jawn as a Philadelphia development of joint, a New York regional slang form that moved south and widened in meaning. Local speech, Philadelphia rap, social-media accounts, and popular culture such as Creed helped make it legible outside the city. Dictionary.com added it to its fall 2023 list of new dictionary entries, a sign of wider recognition rather than the end of its regional identity. 1617

The routes differ, but the pattern is consistent: a word can travel through a song, a game, a local speech community, or a platform meme and arrive with part of its old context still attached. That context is often what tells a reader whether a term is playful, regional, insulting, or simply nonsense.

Dictionary pages support the current definitions and usage notes above. Urban Dictionary is included only as a dated, user-submitted record of visible usage; its dates should not be read as authoritative evidence of coinage.
