Viral Content Week #14 — Sep 1–7: 6 YouTube videos, 5 Reddit posts, and the missing TikTok/Instagram leaderboard
Six verified YouTube videos and five Reddit posts explain what spread from September 1–7, with a clear boundary around unavailable platformwide TikTok and Instagram rankings.
This week’s viral list splits in two. YouTube rewarded recognizable creators, music fandom, game nostalgia, and franchise news. Reddit rewarded smaller human stories: a reluctant cat owner, a miserable astronaut, a privacy alarm, a dangerous climb, and a dog caught in a protective moment.
This issue covers posts and videos published from September 1 through September 7, 2026, with the platform counts captured during the Monday edition window. YouTube entries are ordered by current views. Reddit entries are ordered by current score. Those numbers move after publication, so they are snapshots rather than permanent rankings.
A clear boundary matters here: a platformwide seven-day TikTok or Instagram leaderboard could not be verified through the available public routes. TikTok’s available tools expose account-level search and listings rather than a comparable global weekly board. Instagram returned keyword-based Reel samples without comparable platformwide seven-day ranking metrics. The video section below therefore contains six verifiable YouTube entries, while the Reddit section contains five posts with current post-level engagement data.

1. “This video will teach you How NOT To Fish” — SMii7Y
2,280,491 views, 106,503 likes, 2,670 comments. Published September 6; runtime 40:14. 1

The title supplies the share mechanism before the video starts. Fishing usually promises competence, calm, or a useful tip; “How NOT To Fish” reverses that promise into a comedy premise. The reversal makes the item understandable in one glance and gives viewers a simple reason to send it to someone who has had a similarly bad attempt.
The 40-minute runtime also separates the video from a disposable clip. SMii7Y turns a familiar activity into a longer creator-led event, while the title keeps the entry point compact. That combination—an instantly readable failure premise with enough room for escalation—helps explain why the video leads this week’s verified YouTube set.
2. “EVAN (에반) ‘Death of Me’ Official MV” — HYBE LABELS
1,569,891 views, 250,948 likes, 21,313 comments. Published September 7; runtime 3:12. 2

This is the week’s clearest concentrated-fandom hit. The official music-video format gives fans a single, polished object to watch, replay, discuss, and circulate immediately after release. The title carries both the performer’s name and the song name, while HYBE LABELS supplies a familiar distribution channel for people already waiting for new music.
The engagement mix matters. A three-minute video with more than 250,000 likes and more than 21,000 comments has generated unusually dense visible participation alongside its view total. The spread comes less from an open-ended internet joke than from a coordinated release moment: a new song, a short replayable video, and a fan audience with a reason to react now.
3. “YES DOPPELGANGERS HERE | Shift at Midnight w/ Bob and Wade” — Markiplier
1,565,616 views, 49,128 likes, 3,038 comments. Published September 6; runtime 1:16:38. 3

“Doppelgangers” is a strong curiosity word because it promises a visual or identity puzzle without explaining the answer. The phrase “YES DOPPELGANGERS HERE” pushes that curiosity into a claim viewers can test for themselves. Adding Bob and Wade to the title gives the premise a social frame rather than presenting it as an anonymous game upload.
At 76 minutes, the video behaves like a scheduled hangout or event. That length would be a barrier for a random discovery, but it becomes a feature for an audience arriving for the hosts and the premise. The result is a familiar creator relationship wrapped around a question that is easy to repeat: who is the double, and what happens when the resemblance becomes the point?
4. “GTA5 - The LAST Grand Theft Auto 5 Session!” — VanossGaming
1,120,136 views, 37,841 likes, 1,213 comments. Published September 6; runtime 18:33. 4

The word “LAST” does most of the promotional work. Grand Theft Auto V is already a recognizable setting, and VanossGaming gives the upload an established creator identity. The title adds a possible ending, turning another gameplay session into a farewell, milestone, or piece of channel history.
That framing creates two audiences at once. Regular viewers have a reason to return because the session sounds consequential. Casual viewers can understand the hook without knowing the whole back catalogue: this may be the final time this familiar combination appears. The video’s 18-minute runtime keeps the supposed finale easy to sample and share.
5. “Avengers Doomsday & Major Spider-Man Changes!” — Emergency Awesome
292,915 views, 3,778 likes, 400 comments. Published September 6; runtime 14:17. 5

This upload compresses several franchise questions into one headline. “Avengers Doomsday” names a major Marvel property, while “Major Spider-Man Changes” promises consequences for one of the company’s most searched characters. The title therefore works as both news hook and explanation hook: fans can click to learn what changed, then share the video as a quick briefing for other fans.
Its scale is smaller than the top four, but the mechanism is distinct. Franchise explainers spread when a development is complicated enough to need sorting and familiar enough to trigger immediate interest. Emergency Awesome’s long description also places the video inside a wider web of Marvel and Spider-Man topics, giving viewers several recognizable entry points without changing the central promise.
6. “You Can See Everything - Official Teaser (2026) Nathan Fielder, Elizabeth Holmes” — IGN Movie Trailers
15,794 views, 241 likes, 50 comments. Published September 7; runtime 1:12. 6
Loading content card…
The final YouTube entry shows how uneven a trending snapshot can be. The teaser has a much smaller current total than the other five, yet its title is built for targeted discovery: it combines an unusual film name with Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes, two names that can pull distinct online audiences toward the same 72-second object.
The short runtime lowers the cost of sampling, while “Official Teaser” signals that the upload is a primary promotional artifact rather than a commentary video. Its spread is therefore likely to be narrower and more interest-specific than the larger creator and fandom hits above. That difference is useful: virality is not a single scale, and a sharp niche hook can appear beside mass-audience releases without matching their totals.
1. “Gf brought home a cat that i don’t want. Now me and him are best friends.” — r/cats
35,718 score, 1,000 comments, 1,857 shares, 98.72% upvote ratio. Posted September 7. 7

The post has a complete emotional arc in its title: resistance, an unexpected bond, and a new relationship stated as a punchline. Readers do not need extra context to understand the transformation. The comments extend that arc with affection, congratulations on the surrounding relationship news, adoption context, and links to cat-focused communities.
The post also traveled beyond its home subreddit into Reddit’s broader popular feeds. That matters because the story can work for cat enthusiasts and for people who simply recognize the familiar joke of being overruled by a pet. Its share count reflects a low-friction social use: sending the post says, “This is exactly what happened to someone who claimed they did not want a cat.”
2. “TIL that Japan’s first astronaut, Toyohiro Akiyama, hated his time in space because he suffered from severe space sickness and chain-smoked four packs a day on Earth.” — r/todayilearned
23,046 score, 642 comments, 1,521 shares, 96.83% upvote ratio. Posted September 7. 8

This item is built from a collision of facts that feel almost engineered for retelling. Space sickness is already an uncomfortable counterpoint to the glamour of space travel. The four-pack-a-day detail adds an extreme terrestrial habit, and the comments concentrate on exactly that contrast: heavy smoking, severe nausea, and the absurdity of sending this particular person into orbit.
The title gives the audience the whole surprise without requiring a video or a long thread. That makes the post portable across chats and social feeds. Readers can repeat the premise in one sentence, then open the comments to compare reactions. The 1,521 shares show how strongly the fact combination worked as a small piece of conversational ammunition.
3. “LG smart TVs caught logging audio with screen off and snooping on local devices” — r/news
14,542 score, 900 comments, 1,346 shares, 98.39% upvote ratio. Posted September 7. 9

This post spreads through immediate personal stakes. A television is a familiar household object, and the alleged behavior described in the headline reaches into two private spaces at once: the room around the set and the local devices connected to the same network. Notebookcheck’s report attributes the underlying investigation to Gamers Nexus, Level1Techs, and independent security researchers, including claims about local-network sweeps, nearby-device mapping, microphone capture while the screen was off, and later upload after reconnection. 10
The comments turn the headline into a practical argument. Readers ask about removable microphones, offline behavior, upload timing, fines, and criminal liability. Other comments point back to Gamers Nexus as the investigation behind the report. The post therefore has two sharing engines: alarm about a device already in the home, and a technical dispute that gives readers reasons to keep discussing it after the initial shock.
4. “German shepherd protect his boy from another dog” — r/interesting
12,407 score, 994 comments, 1,725 shares, 91.90% upvote ratio. Posted September 7. 11

The title supplies a simple protective story that viewers can read almost instantly from the clip. That emotional framing explains the high share count: the post offers a compact scene about loyalty and danger, the kind of moment people send before writing an explanation.
The discussion adds a necessary complication. Many comments focus on the dog’s protective behavior and the child’s safety, while others argue about the responsibility of the owner whose dog was off leash. The item spread because the visible action is emotionally clear, but the comments keep it from becoming only a “hero dog” caption. Viewers are also debating the human decisions around the encounter.
5. “Amity Warme is a rock climber. She lives in a van and spends much of the year traveling to various climbing destinations. This clip shows her on the crux of this Yosemite climb, 150 feet in the air.” — r/nextfuckinglevel
10,294 score, 2,152 comments, 2,134 shares, 92.13% upvote ratio. Posted September 7. 12

This is the week’s strongest visible-risk post. The title supplies a person, a place, a height, and a precise point in the climb: the crux. That specificity turns an otherwise hard-to-measure feat into a scene readers can imagine before pressing play.
The comments split into several concrete reactions. Some admire the climber’s skill. Some focus on the visible safety setup. Others react primarily to the height or question whether the van-based climbing lifestyle is financially sustainable. The post spreads because the footage creates immediate physical tension, while the surrounding argument gives people several ways to respond after the first “how is that possible?” reaction.
What the week actually shared
The strongest common thread is instant legibility. The cat post, the dog clip, and the climbing video explain their emotional premise in a sentence. The YouTube titles do the same with failure, doppelgangers, a final session, and major franchise changes. A viewer can classify the item before deciding whether to spend time on it.
A second trigger is a detail that changes the expected frame. The fishing video turns instruction into failure. The astronaut post puts severe space sickness beside four packs of cigarettes a day. The LG report turns an ordinary television into a possible privacy problem. The “last” GTA session turns routine gameplay into a possible ending.
The third trigger is a reason to bring someone else into the item. Fans can send the EVAN music video during a release moment. Marvel viewers can forward an explainer to someone who missed the news. Cat owners can send the reluctant-owner story as a personal joke. The climber’s height and the dog’s protective scene invite an immediate reaction even when the recipient has no prior knowledge.
The week’s entries still travel through different systems. YouTube’s biggest numbers cluster around creators, fandoms, and recognizable franchises. Reddit’s highest scores come from a sharper mixture of emotional stories, startling facts, visible risk, and concrete consumer consequences. The useful lesson is less “one format won” than “the first sentence made the reason to care obvious.”
