The Big Story: Neymar Out, Morocco Ready
Brazil's talisman Neymar is sidelined with a calf strain picked up at Santos in May — Carlo Ancelotti refused to drop him from the squad and is targeting a June 19 return vs Haiti. Meanwhile Morocco arrive at MetLife with a squad-depth crisis of their own (Ezzalzouli and Aguerd injured), but a potent psychological weapon: they beat Brazil 2–1 in a 2023 friendly and eliminated them from the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals. Achraf Hakimi, Hakim Ziyech, and that compact back line have done this before.
Switzerland vs Qatar is the group's dark horse watch: Granit Xhaka's 13th World Cup appearance would equal the Swiss national record. Qatar are still searching for their first-ever World Cup point after a winless 2022 campaign.

Stars to Watch Today
  • Folarin Balogun (USA) — off the back of a brace, Monaco's striker enters day 4 as the tournament's most talked-about forward
  • Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) — Xhaka's Swiss machine vs Hakimi's PSG wing bombs is the tactical duel of the day
  • Granit Xhaka — record night for Switzerland's captain
  • Hakan Çalhanoğlu — Türkiye's Inter Milan playmaker leads his nation's first World Cup appearance in 24 years
