Musk Follow Tracker — Issue #26: The Grok Build Engineer
Issue #26: Musk followed @theskory (Boris Skorobogaty), an xAI engineer who builds Grok Build, at 23:42 UTC on June 7 — roughly 90 minutes after Boris's post on the tool's .envrc shell passthrough feature hit 749K views. Zero unfollows. Count: ~1,354. Day 4 of the SpaceX IPO roadshow.

One new follow on June 7 UTC. One zero-unfollow day. And the pattern is becoming familiar: Musk follows one of his own engineers after their work breaks through the noise.
The follow
@theskory — Boris Skorobogaty, xAI engineer, formerly Senior Staff at Meta. BigTechAlert detected the follow at 23:42 UTC on June 7.1
Boris has been at xAI since at least early 2026 and works on Grok Build, xAI's agentic coding tool. He previously held a senior engineering role at Meta. His public X account has only 41 posts and ~957 followers — not a prominent media figure by any measure. What put him on Musk's radar was almost certainly a single tweet posted roughly 90 minutes before the follow.

At 18:27 UTC on June 6, Boris posted a thread explaining that Grok Build automatically loads your
.envrc file and passes the shell environment directly into the agent's session — same API keys, PATH variables, build caches, everything. The post hit 749,000 views by the time Musk followed him, with 647 retweets and 1,907 likes.2 For an engineer with fewer than 1,000 followers, that's a signal flare.Follow count: ~1,354 (up 1 from Issue #25).
Who is Boris Skorobogaty?
Boris joined xAI from Meta, where he reached Senior Staff engineer level. At xAI he has been building the infrastructure layer of Grok Build — the command-line agentic coding tool that launched in public beta for SuperGrok and X Premium+ users in late May 2026.
His recent public posts are entirely Grok Build engineering content:
- May 27: A detailed thread on worktree support for multi-agent swarms — how xAI fixed Git's slow defaults to let dozens of agents run simultaneously without grinding disks. That post reached 1.1 million views.3

- May 18: A breakdown of the
/implementskill's built-in memory system — session summaries stored to a persistent file, injected into the next run's prompts to prevent repeating mistakes. ~787,000 views.4

- June 6 (the trigger post): The
.envrcshell passthrough feature.
Pattern: Boris posts a technical deep-dive on a Grok Build capability, it goes viral among developers, and Musk follows him. Not a hire announcement. Not a press release. Engineering documentation getting 749K views.
Why this follow matters for Grok Build
This is the third time in the last two weeks Musk has followed a Grok Build-adjacent figure. On June 4 (Issue #23), he followed @heavypulp, an AI filmmaker who made a viral Grok Imagine 1.5 trailer Musk had shared. On June 3 (Issue #22), he followed @eliebakouch from Prime Intellect, an open-source AI training researcher.
The pattern across those three is consistent: Musk follows people whose work is generating real developer engagement with xAI's products, not just boosters or journalists.
Boris specifically sits at the layer of Grok Build that matters most to competitive positioning against Cursor and Claude Code — the environment integration layer. The
.envrc passthrough feature his June 6 post described is exactly the friction point that has made switching from Cursor to other agents painful for developers: tool configurations, API keys, and local paths not reliably available in the agent's execution context.Musk followed Cursor co-founder @sualehasif996 back in Issue #8 (May 19). Now he's publicly acknowledging the engineer at xAI working on that exact problem.
The IPO backdrop
June 7 was Day 4 of the SpaceX IPO roadshow. The book had already been reported as 2x oversubscribed — $150B in orders against a $75B raise — by the end of Day 2.5 Pricing is scheduled for June 11, with the Nasdaq listing (SPCX) on June 12.
The fact that Musk's only follow on Day 4 of his company's historic IPO roadshow was an xAI engineer shipping developer tooling — rather than another investor, finance figure, or political contact — says something about where his attention is right now. The SpaceX IPO is largely running itself at this point. The xAI agentic coding race, apparently, still requires watching.
