World Cup 2026 leaderboard update: Spain take Group H, Belgium stall again
Spain's 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia puts them top of Group H, while Belgium's 0-0 draw with Iran leaves Group G compressed and the Red Devils still scoreless. This update refreshes all 12 groups, the third-place lane, scoring and assist boards, goalkeeper watch and player power ranking through the 22:00 UTC cutoff on June 21, with live matches held out until final.

Spain needed one half-hour to pull Group H back toward the expected script. Belgium, by contrast, now have two points and no goals from two matches. This leaderboard update covers completed World Cup matches through the 22:00 UTC cutoff on June 21; Uruguay-Cape Verde had just kicked off and New Zealand-Egypt was not final, so neither match is counted in the standings below.
The cutoff board
| Match status at cutoff | Result or status | Leaderboard effect |
|---|---|---|
| Spain vs. Saudi Arabia | Spain 4-0 Saudi Arabia, FT | Spain move to 4 points and top Group H; Saudi Arabia stay on 1 point with a -4 goal difference. 1 |
| Belgium vs. Iran | Belgium 0-0 Iran, FT | Iran and Belgium both reach 2 points in Group G; Iran stay first on goals scored. 2 |
| Uruguay vs. Cape Verde | 0-0, 9' at the research cutoff | Treated as live, not final; the Group H table below holds Uruguay and Cape Verde at one completed match each. 3 |
| New Zealand vs. Egypt | Not final at cutoff | Not counted in Group G yet. 4 |
Spain's correction was emphatic: Lamine Yamal scored in the 10th minute, Mikel Oyarzabal scored in the 21st and 24th, and Hassan Al-Tambakti's own goal made it 4-0 early in the second half. 1 The match page also had Spain at 2.30 expected goals, 67% possession and eight shots on goal against Saudi Arabia's 0.14 xG and one shot on target. 5

Belgium's problem is now cleaner to state and harder to solve: 23 shots, 70% possession, 1.82 xG and seven shots on goal produced no goal against Iran. 7 Nathan Ngoy's 66th-minute red card changed the match state, but Alireza Beiranvand's seven saves kept the draw intact. 2

Third-place lane
The cleanest third-place line is still the four-team cluster on three points: Scotland, Australia, Paraguay and Sweden. 8 Spain's win pushes Saudi Arabia into the one-point pile for now, but Group H remains incomplete until Uruguay-Cape Verde becomes final. 3

Scorers, creators and keepers
| Race | Current leaders | New movement to note |
|---|---|---|
| Golden Boot | Jonathan David, Lionel Messi and Deniz Undav lead on 3 goals. 9 | Oyarzabal's two goals move him into the two-goal chase pack with players including Matheus Cunha, Daichi Kamada, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane and Ayase Ueda. 5 |
| Assists | Alexander Isak leads with 3 assists; Chris Wood, Julio Enciso, Ryan Gravenberch and Denzel Dumfries sit on 2. 10 | Oyarzabal also assisted Yamal's opener, adding a creator point to his scoring jump. 1 |
| Golden Glove watch | Unai Simón and Raúl Rangel are the only keepers listed with 2 clean sheets; Simón has not conceded in 180 minutes. 11 | Beiranvand is the day's biggest mover: seven saves against Belgium and one clean sheet put him back in the goalkeeper conversation. 2 |
Player power ranking after this window
| Rank | Player | Why he moves here |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lamine Yamal, Spain | First World Cup start, 10th-minute goal, and the spark for Spain's three-goal opening half-hour. 1 |
| 2 | Mikel Oyarzabal, Spain | Two goals and an assist turned a selection headache into Spain's best attacking performance of the tournament so far. 5 |
| 3 | Alireza Beiranvand, Iran | Seven saves, a clean sheet and a point against Belgium keep Iran first in Group G. 7 |
| 4 | Unai Simón, Spain | Two clean sheets from two starts give Spain a defensive base while the attack resets. 11 |
| 5 | Jonathan David, Canada | Still joint-top of the Golden Boot with 3 goals; no new match today, but the leaderboard has not caught him. 9 |
What to watch next
Group G is the messiest live group on the board: Iran and Belgium both have two draws, while New Zealand and Egypt still have only one completed match in this snapshot. 7 Group H now has a leader, but the real shape of second and third place depends on the Uruguay-Cape Verde final that was still live at cutoff. 3
