June 30 scorecard: BJ's gas, Sam's groceries

The publication week here is June 23–30, and the deal calendar is unusually compressed: BJ's double-coupon window ends July 2, while Sam's Instant Savings, Sam's membership offers, Costco's Groupon membership offer, and BJ's fuel promo all cluster around July 5–6. 1 2

The short version: Costco is not the default cheapest stop this week. Sam's Club has the cleaner grocery and entry-membership plays. BJ's has the strongest gas stack, the best current tire angle, and the only true coupon-stacking edge. Costco is a targeted trip for a few hard goods, a narrow travel-deadline list, and the upgraded Groupon membership credit.

The Costco aisle is thinner than last week because the June 22–26 Member Appreciation Sale is over and the June 22–28 Weekly Insider batch expired. 9 The June 29–July 6 Costco batch is still useful, but it is narrow: AC, Waterpik, Zevo insect traps, Orgain creatine, Boursin, bagel chips, lemonade, and a few seasonal foods. 9

Sam's is the opposite: the ISB is stable rather than flashy. The count moved from 34 to 35 active deals, all tagged to expire July 5. 6 That makes Sam's the safer grocery stop, especially if you already know which Member's Mark items your household actually finishes.

If you have all three memberships, start with Sam's Club for groceries and membership timing. The $15 Club and $50 Plus offers run through July 5 for new members and eligible inactive members, while the older $8 in-store deal already expired June 26. 2 19 Use Sam's for the items you know you can store: paper goods, frozen staples, beverages, and shelf-stable snacks. Skip giant fresh trays unless you plan to split or freeze them within a day.

Second stop: BJ's for gas, coupon stacking, and tires. The gas play is strongest if you can naturally hit the $150 threshold before July 5 and redeem within the 7-day fuel-credit window. 4 The coupon play is strongest before July 2, when the double-coupon period ends. 14 If you need tires, do not treat the one-day Kelly B2G2 as a generic recommendation. Confirm your size, installed price, and appointment availability first. 10

Third stop: Costco only for targeted buys. The Midea AC and Waterpik combo are current, real, and easy to evaluate. 9 Costco Travel is urgent only if one of the July 1–2 packages is already on your shortlist; eight Costco Travel deals have July 1–2 book-by dates. 17 Do not make a Costco trip just because the old meme says Costco wins every aisle.

The cleanest upgrade case is BJ's Club+ if you already spend at BJ's and use gas. The lowest-risk trial is still BJ's $14 Club, followed by Sam's $15 Club. Costco's Groupon offer can be strong, but only if you will actually use the Costco.com threshold purchase before the August 9 code expiration. 13

The July 2 date belongs to BJ's coupon stackers: the double-coupon bonus and overlapping P&G spend-$200-get-$50 event both end that day. 14 15 The July 5 date is the bigger cliff: Sam's ISB, Sam's $15/$50 membership offers, Costco's Groupon membership offer, and BJ's spend-$150-get-50¢ gas promo all end or cluster there. 2 4 13

Costco's current coupon book continues through July 19, and no public July 20+ Costco coupon-book preview was available in the research summary. 22 23 BJ's current coupon cycle also runs June 15–July 19, with no separate July cycle found. 14

So the practical move is simple: use BJ's before July 2 if coupons are your game, use Sam's before July 5 if you need groceries or a cheap membership, and use Costco only for a named deal with a real deadline.
