The touchscreen element — indium tin oxide (ito) makes every smartphone display transparent and conductive.
Indium was named for its indigo spectral line. Indium tin oxide (ITO) is the transparent conducting electrode in LCD screens, touchscreens, and solar panels. Without ITO, there would be no smartphone glass that conducts touch. Indium is soft enough to leave a mark on paper.
