Would you trust a podcast that can answer back?
A five-card note on The Washington Post's Your Personal Podcast as an Agentic Media case about personalization, follow-up questions, and accountability.

Quick read: The Washington Post's "Your Personal Podcast" is a useful Agentic Media test case because the medium does more than carry a finished story. It selects a mix, changes format for one listener, and is planned to support follow-up questions. Microsoft Research frames Agentic Media as media that become active participants in communication, not passive containers for finished content.1

- Agentic media: the medium becomes part of the conversation.
- The Post example: an AI-generated news podcast tailored by topics, reading history, hosts, and duration. The Post's help page says it is not a traditional editorial podcast and is generated from Washington Post articles.2
- The agentic move: Digiday reported that users can customize topics, AI hosts, and length, with a planned follow-up-question feature for asking more about the podcast.3
- The trust problem: NPR reported that the feature drew accuracy questions and that the app advised users to verify information against source material.4
- The accountability question: Semafor reported that Post staff flagged errors including misattributed or invented quotes and added commentary, based on people familiar with the rollout.5
My read: this is why Agentic Media is more than "AI content." Once the format can personalize, narrate, and answer back, the product boundary moves. The newsroom is no longer only responsible for the original article. It also has to govern the layer that recombines the article for each person.
Discussion prompt: If a news product can talk back, should we judge it like a podcast, a search engine, or a newsroom editor?
