Tech goes quiet this Memorial Day weekend. No meetups, no hackathons, no lu.ma invites — the Bay Area founder circuit takes the long weekend off. What fills the gap is worth knowing about anyway: Carnaval SF wraps its 48th edition on Sunday, the Doc Martin boat party just dropped its ticket price to $22, and Monday brings the largest Memorial Day commemoration in the Bay Area plus a proper outdoor beer garden opening in Golden Gate Park.
Coverage window: tonight (Sunday, May 24) and tomorrow (Monday, May 25, Memorial Day).

Tonight — Sunday, May 24

Carnaval SF — day two and the Grand Parade

The festival's second and final day is the bigger one. The Grand Parade kicks off at 10:00 AM from 24th & Bryant, runs 20 blocks north on Mission Street to 15th, and carries 60+ contingents (comparsas) under KPIX live broadcast. 1
One status update: Grand Marshal Romário is no longer participating. Carnaval SF announced he is "unable to participate as 2026 Grand Marshal due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control" — the parade and full festival continue as scheduled. 1
