Afternoon Serenade

A neoclassical piano trio — piano, violin, and cello — stepping lightly through a sun-dappled afternoon. Bright D major, an Allegretto that never rushes, textures as transparent as glass.

The piano opens alone with a crisp, dancing figure — clean intervals, precise attack, nothing heavy. The violin arrives with an airy singing melody while the cello walks quietly below in pizzicato. Three voices in easy conversation, each distinct, each listening to the others.

The middle section breathes out into a lyrical Andante interlude: the cello steps forward with a warm, unhurried singing line; the piano softens into gentle chords; the violin threads a decorative reply. Then the opening playfulness returns — piano and strings in bright unison sprint toward a clean, unhurried resolution.

In the spirit of Poulenc and early Prokofiev: spare harmonies, clear counterpoint, none of the heavy Romantic weight — just elegance, wit, and good humor. A courtyard in the afternoon light.
