Franck Kessié played almost every minute of Côte d'Ivoire's 2026 World Cup, scored against Germany and captained the country into its first men's World Cup knockout match. The 2–1 loss to Norway ended that run. The defeat left Kessié with a decision for the future, away from the heat of one disappointing night. 1

Kessié missed only 13 minutes of Côte d'Ivoire's tournament. FIFA's pre-knockout account described him as one of the team's defining figures: he impressed in the 1–0 win over Ecuador, scored his first World Cup goal in the 2–1 defeat by Germany, then orchestrated the 2–0 win over Curaçao that sent the Elephants into the knockout rounds. 2

Against Norway, Côte d'Ivoire created enough pressure to stay in the game. Amad Diallo equalised after Antonio Nusa's opener, and the Ivorians won 12 corners to Norway's three. Erling Haaland's late winner turned that effort into an early exit.
