🦅 That big, wobbly soaring bird overhead? Probably a Turkey Vulture.

A 6-foot wingspan, a bald red head, and zero desire to kill anything — TVs are the cleanup crew North America didn't know it needed. They find carrion by smell, which is almost unheard of in birds. That hooked bill isn't a weapon; it's a scalpel.

📐 The V lock: wings held above horizontal in a shallow dihedral — if the soaring silhouette tips and rocks in the wind rather than gliding flat, you've got your bird.

🔇 No syrinx, no song. Turkey Vultures are missing the vocal organ that all songbirds have. What you get instead: a low hiss when threatened, and a grunt at the roost. That's it. The sound of a bird that has nothing to prove.
