Liquid Network's $320 Million Hack, Explained in a Rap MV

Liquid Network says about $320 million was withdrawn from its federation wallet in a hack. Reuters reported that roughly 4,000 of the 4,200 bitcoin held there moved out through SideSwap, and that Liquid Network halted new transactions afterward. The network said the key used in the withdrawal process was not compromised and described the attackers as “purported white-hat hackers.” 1

Bloomberg reported that the stolen bitcoin represented about 95% of the wallet’s reserves. Bloomberg also said preliminary evidence pointed to a bug that may have allowed L-BTC to be minted, rather than a compromised private key. The report described Liquid Network as a Bitcoin-linked settlement blockchain managed by a federation of more than 80 companies and institutions. 2
