New Releases Radar: June 19–26
This week’s radar highlights Chanel Beads, Tasha, CFCF, Maxo Kream, Mahan Esfahani’s Bach concertos, and a packed country/Americana slate led by Cody Johnson, Rodney Crowell, Tift Merritt, and River Shook.
June 26 did most of the work this week. The best first listens are Chanel Beads' fractured cloud-rock, Maxo Kream's compact Texas trap set, Mahan Esfahani's complete Bach keyboard concertos, and a country/Americana release day that Saving Country Music framed as one of the year's loaded Fridays. 1 [cite:10|Reddit r/hiphopheads: [FRESH ALBUM] Maxo Kream — O.Y.N.|[https://www.[reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ufvya1/fresh_album_maxo_kream_oyn/]]](https://reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ufvya1/fresh_album_maxo_kream_oyn/]]](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ufvya1/fresh_album_maxo_kream_oyn/]])) 2 3

Indie
Chanel Beads is the week's cleanest indie consensus pick. Shane Lavers' New York project released Your Day Will Come on Jagjaguwar on June 26; the record has fragmented synths, strings, samples, distorted vocals, and pedal steel rather than a tidy band-rock frame. 1 NPR placed the album at #3 in its Starting 5 and tagged the "RIYL" lane as Nourished By Time and Mk.gee. 4 The community signal is strong enough to matter: the r/indieheads post had 116 upvotes, 34 comments, a 99.2% upvote ratio, and a Mod Pick tag. Kieran Press-Reynolds' Pitchfork review gives the best listening instruction: "This album isn't really that dour, though; it's nimble, weird, mischievous." 1 Start here if you want something that feels unstable in a deliberate way.
Tasha released You Are Spring! through Bayonet on June 26, and Stereogum named it Album of the Week three days earlier. 11 The album opens with Tasha, Jamila Woods, and L'Rain singing a cappella before moving into gentle acoustic guitar, clarinet, and piano textures. 11 NPR also put it in the New Music Friday Lightning Round. 4 If Chanel Beads is the art-damaged pick, Tasha is the low-volume one: intimate, warm, and built for a quiet morning.
Muse had the biggest indie-community response. The Wow! Signal came out on Warner on June 26, landed on NPR's Rock/Alt/Indie long list, and drew 248 upvotes with 103 comments on r/indieheads. Two shorter indie notes round out the section. Temples released BLISS on V2 on June 26, posted 45 r/indieheads upvotes with a 100% upvote ratio, and had an AMA notice attached to the same community cycle. [cite:7|Reddit r/indieheads: [FRESH ALBUM] Temples — BLISS|[https://www.[reddit.com/r/indieheads/comments/1ufqytk/fresh_album_temples_bliss/]]](https://reddit.com/r/indieheads/comments/1ufqytk/fresh_album_temples_bliss/]]](https://www.reddit.com/r/indieheads/comments/1ufqytk/fresh_album_temples_bliss/]])) Stereogum's June 19 Best Songs list ranked Lily Seabird's "Election Day" at #1, Squirrel Flower's "Reelin'" at #2, Ceremony's "Death Destruction Mayhem" at #3, Perennial's "What's New On The Beat Scene" at #4, and Kelela's "outta time" featuring A.K. Paul at #5. 12
Electronic
CFCF is the electronic album to start with. Mike Silver's L.U.V. was reviewed by Pitchfork on June 23, and Anna Gaca described it as a pop-facing record whose obvious care keeps it from feeling like "commodity product." 6 The reference field is clear: Alan Braxe, Fred Falke, Fischerspooner, Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk, and Kylie Minogue all sit in the album's 2000s and early-2010s electro orbit. 6
The guest list also tells you what kind of record this is. Cecile Believe appears on "Bad Song," EQ/Estratosfera appears on "ultra-obscene!," and Touching Ice and TECHG1RLS are also part of the album's collaborator pool. 6 Put it on if you want bright surfaces with a little bad-taste humor underneath.
NPR's June 26 list gives electronic listeners a few more paths. Madeon released Victory on Mom+Pop and landed in NPR's Lightning Round; Stereogum also listed it among other notable albums. 4 11 Brutalismus 3000 released Harmony on Columbia and was one of Dora's Corner picks in NPR's round-up. 4 Gold Panda also appeared in NPR's Electronic long list with Ton Up on Studio Barnhus. 4
Hip-hop
Maxo Kream released O.Y.N. on EMPIRE on June 26. [cite:10|Reddit r/hiphopheads: [FRESH ALBUM] Maxo Kream — O.Y.N.|[https://www.[reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ufvya1/fresh_album_maxo_kream_oyn/]]](https://reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ufvya1/fresh_album_maxo_kream_oyn/]]](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ufvya1/fresh_album_maxo_kream_oyn/]])) Drop Watch lists it as a 9-track TX Trap and Southern Hip-Hop album, and the feature list includes Denzel Curry and JPEGMAFIA. 5 The r/hiphopheads thread had the week's strongest album-thread signal in the genre: 293 upvotes, 56 comments, and a 99.7% upvote ratio. T.I. released Kill The King through EMPIRE on June 26. 5 The draw is the guest list: USHER, T-Pain, Anderson .Paak, Summer Walker, NBA YoungBoy, 2 Chainz, Jeezy, Young Dro, The-Dream, and Pharrell Williams. 13 Drop Watch tagged the album as Hip-Hop and Southern Rap and listed T.I. with 17.1 million Spotify listeners. 13
NBA YoungBoy released More Leaks II, also posted as ML2, through Motown on June 26. 5 Drop Watch tagged it as Melodic Trap and showed 19.6 million Spotify listeners, the highest listener count in the week's hip-hop slate. 13 That does not make it the most discussed release here, but it does make it the largest audience play.
The smaller releases are easier to sort by use case. Casey Veggies released Caught Up In The Game: Deluxe Edition on June 20 with 29 tracks, and its r/hiphopheads post had 79 upvotes and 8 comments. [cite:13|Reddit r/hiphopheads: [FRESH ALBUM] Casey Veggies — Caught Up In The Game: Deluxe Edition|[https://www.[reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1uakpni/fresh_album_casey_veggies_caught_up_in_the_game/]]](https://reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1uakpni/fresh_album_casey_veggies_caught_up_in_the_game/]]](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1uakpni/fresh_album_casey_veggies_caught_up_in_the_game/]])) STANDING ON THE CORNER released II on June 22 as a two-sided YouTube release, and its r/hiphopheads post had 95 upvotes and 13 comments. [cite:14|Reddit r/hiphopheads: [FRESH ALBUM] STANDING ON THE CORNER — II|[https://www.[reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ucys0c/fresh_album_standing_on_the_corner_ii/]]](https://reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ucys0c/fresh_album_standing_on_the_corner_ii/]]](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1ucys0c/fresh_album_standing_on_the_corner_ii/]])) Benny the Butcher released The Plugs I Met 2.5 with Raekwon, 38 Spesh, Elcamino, and Bruiser Wolf; Wyclef Jean released Clef Notes - Quantum Leap, Vol. 1 with Lil Wayne, G Herbo, and Rapsody. 5 13
For singles, Future released "Radio" with an official music video on June 26, and his site showed The Real Me as a July 10 album. 5 Steve Lacy released "Is It Cool?" with SZA on June 26, with Apple Music and YouTube links posted in the r/hiphopheads thread cycle. 5
Classical
Mahan Esfahani's J.S. Bach: The Complete Keyboard Concertos is the classical anchor. Hyperion released the 2-CD album globally on June 25; Esfahani plays harpsichord and directs Britten Sinfonia on modern instruments. 2 The program includes BWV1052–1058, the recorder version of BWV1057 with Michala Petri and Ian Wilson, the A minor Triple Concerto BWV1044, and Esfahani's reconstruction of the unfinished D minor Concerto BWV1059. 2
The response is unusually specific. Andrew Matthews-Owen on BBC Radio 3 called it "an electric recording" because Esfahani puts the keyboard "front and centre," while Graham Rickson at The Arts Desk called the performances "hugely enjoyable" and "superbly balanced." 7 For listeners who usually skip harpsichord concertos because the instrument can feel boxed in, this is the record designed to argue back.
Presto Music's June 26 round-up gives the rest of the shelf. Paavo Järvi and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen released the second volume of their Schubert symphony cycle on RCA, covering Symphonies Nos. 5 and 6. 14 Edward Gardner and the London Philharmonic Orchestra released live recordings of Strauss' Eine Alpensinfonie and Metamorphosen on the LPO label. 14 James Ehnes and Andrew Armstrong released Brahms' violin sonatas as the first release on Seattle Chamber Music Society's in-house label, with The Guardian giving it five stars. 14
Three more classical releases depend on what you want from the week. Jader Bignamini's Detroit Symphony Orchestra recording of Orff's Carmina Burana on Pentatone was named a forthcoming BBC Music Magazine Choral Choice. 14 Ning Feng released Mozart's complete violin concertos with Kammerakademie Potsdam, using a 1665 Nicolò Amati violin and a 1694 Francesco Rugeri violin. 14 Jonathan Kuo paired Godowsky's Java Suite with Stravinsky's Three Movements from Petrushka. 14
NPR's classical list added Dylan Mattingly's The Wild Heart on Nonesuch and Rúnar Óskarsson's Brahms: Complete Clarinet Works on Sono Luminus. 4
Country
Country and Americana had the busiest release slate. Saving Country Music's June 24 guide said June 26 was one of those album Fridays with enough "top flight records" to justify a dedicated guide. 3 No Depression's June 26 Bonus Tracks column listed 15 new releases for the date, including American Aquarium, Rodney Crowell, Devon Gilfillian, Tift Merritt, Andrew Sa, Sad Daddy, and River Shook. 15
Cody Johnson released Banks of the Trinity on June 26 through COJO Music and Warner Music Nashville. 8 The album has 16 tracks, and Cowboys & Indians described it in metadata as Johnson's most personal album yet and his first new album in nearly three years. 8 If you want the mainstream Texas-country tentpole, start here.
Rodney Crowell released Then Again on June 26. 9 Americana UK described it as a lost album recorded in 2005, and the record includes Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, and Benmont Tench. 9 The appeal is archival rather than novelty: a shelved songwriter record from a major Americana figure has a different weight than a standard new-cycle LP.
Tift Merritt released Sugar on June 26 through One Riot Records. 10 The album is her first new record in nearly a decade, and No Depression included it in the June 26 new-release list. 10 15
River Shook released a self-titled solo debut through Blackberry River on June 26 after dissolving Sarah Shook and the Disarmers in summer 2025. 16 No Depression selected Shook as its June 2026 Spotlight Artist and described the album as Shook's most clear-eyed and vulnerable work yet. 16 Pitchfork also reviewed the album on June 26, with Brad Sanders calling it a forceful statement of self-determination. 17
American Aquarium released New Ways to Lose on June 26, and No Depression's June 25 review framed it around BJ Barham's nostalgic Southern storytelling. 18 Sad Daddy released Ozark Shine the same day, a 13-track album recorded at the Bomb Shelter in Nashville by the Arkansas-born string band Melissa Carper, Rebecca Patek, Brian Martin, and Joe Sundell. 19
Country Universe's June 22 review round-up points to two more screening candidates. Willow Avalon earned 4.5 out of 5 stars for a new album believed to be Pink Pocket Pistol, tying for the highest score in the 12-album round-up. 20 Andrew Sa earned 4 out of 5 stars for the debut album American Rough, and No Depression also reviewed the album positively during the same release cycle. 20
For a single rather than a full album, Texas Headhunters released "Cut N' Run" on June 25. 21 The trio is Ian Moore, Johnny Moeller, and Jesse Dayton, and the song previews a full-length album expected in early fall. 21 Rock & Blues Muse called it "a hard-driving blast of blues-rock energy," which is enough guidance: this is the loud roots-rock lane, not the quiet songwriter lane. 21
