This moth drinks bird tears

A moth that sneaks into a sleeping bird’s closed eye to drink tears sounds made up. A 2007 Biology Letters report documented Hemiceratoides hieroglyphica attacking sleeping birds in Madagascar and pushing a sharply tipped proboscis, armed with hooks, barbs, and spines, into a closed eye. The eye-intrusion and tear use were observed; the abstract does not establish how much fluid the moth takes or why this host interaction evolved. 1
