Flying snakes of the genus Chrysopelea launch from branches, splay their ribs, and flatten their round bodies into a broad, wing-like shape. A water-tunnel study of Chrysopelea paradisi measured that flattened body producing lift, with a maximum lift coefficient of 1.9 and a maximum lift-to-drag ratio of 2.7; the study measured the body cross-section rather than the snake's full three-dimensional undulating flight. 12
