Hack #1: Pillowcase fan dust catcher

Turn the ceiling fan off and wait until the blades are fully still. Slide a spare pillowcase over one blade, gently press the fabric around it, and pull the case back so the dust lands inside. Repeat on each blade. The enclosed case keeps loose dust from falling across the room. Use a stable step ladder if you need extra height. 1

Hack #2: Coffee-filter screen dust

Turn the TV or monitor off and let it cool. Use a dry coffee filter to lightly sweep loose dust from the screen and nearby accessories. The thin paper catches dust over a broad surface, but keep the motion gentle and do not spray liquid onto the screen. 1 2

Hack #3: Sock-covered tongs for blinds

Pull one clean sock over each end of a pair of kitchen tongs and secure the socks with twist ties. Close the blinds, clamp one slat, and slide the tongs across it. Both sides get wiped in one pass. Start dry for dust; if you dampen the socks, wring them out well before using them near a window. 1 3

Hack #4: Baking-soda oven paste

Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with 2 to 3 tablespoons of water. Remove the racks and loose crumbs, then spread the paste over the oven's interior surfaces. Keep it away from the heating elements. Leave it overnight, then wipe with a damp cloth. Wear rubber gloves while applying and removing the paste. This is a cleaning paste for oven surfaces, not a substitute for a heavy-duty repair or degreasing job. 4

Hack #5: Grapefruit soap-scum scrub

Cut a grapefruit in half and sprinkle kosher salt over the cut side. Use it to scrub a bathtub, shower glass, or shower wall, then rinse the surface well and discard the fruit. The salted half gives you a grippy, disposable scrubber without bringing a spray bottle into the shower. Test a small hidden spot first on delicate or unfamiliar finishes. 4
These are small resets, but they make awkward surfaces easier to reach and easier to finish. Keep the method simple, and stop if a surface reacts badly.
