

The Bill That Tried to Give America a 10-Year Metric Runway
In October 1973, a House bill introduced by John W. Davis proposed a metric transition plan for the United States. The draft called for a national policy and a voluntary conversion over ten years; the 1975 law and later federal policy still left everyday adoption mostly in the hands of companies, organizations, and people.
