Bumblebees bite leaves when pollen is scarce—and the damage can make flowers arrive early. In lab and outdoor tests, bee-damaged plants flowered significantly earlier than undamaged or mechanically damaged controls: tomatoes by up to 30 days and mustard by about 14 days.
